I used to renovated vacant houses in bad areas that were intended to be Sec 8 houses. Probably did 25 houses in New Orleans over a few years. Next door to one house we were doing, I saw an old woman(who happened to be the neighborhood dealer) get beaten once and another time we showed up to work, she had just been stabbed a bunch of times and had her stash stolen from inside. She was probably 80. At that same house, some idiot tried to steal a toolbox from inside the house we were standing in. Guy shot at us and I shot at him(with a nailgun). Came to work one day and there was a smoldering car sitting in the middle of the street with nobody giving two shits about it. It had obviously been set on fire the night before, but no one cared enough to call the fire department.

I have been cutting grass on vacant and foreclosed properties in the city, the east, and on the wank. I try to do 20 houses/week bi-weekly, and probably only 5 of them are in decent to nice shape in decent to nice neighborhoods. I was in worse neighborhoods at the beginning of the summer, but some shite changed around and I don't spend so much time in those parts anymore

Eta: I am the antithesis of a hipster. Hipsters hate talking to and being around me probably because I am a dickhead and not even remotely close to being PC

Couple more incidents in the area....

the latest being:
"This was a planned assault," Murphy said when reached by phone Tuesday (July 29), two days after the attack. "It was not a robbery attempt.

This from the comments:

I live here and I know someone who witnessed one of these recent incidents. THE COPS BROUGHT A SUSPECT TO THEIR DOOR FOR IDENTIFICATION. That is irresponsible, unprofessional, lazy and frankly embarrassing behavior by the NOPD. I guess, since these kids and the witness live in the same neighborhood we can probably guess who the next victim will be. As long as the cops think this is appropriate then people will not to contact them when they see crimes like this

A very corrupt, incompetent and mismanaged police dept like this makes me realize I'm lucky I live a in a parish that has the best, most professional and most competent Sheriff's Office in the State of Louisiana.

I hope you're not referring to EBR, Jefferson, or Livingston

I really wish there was more out rage against the in NOPD. Like there is against and for Uber. There had been 4 NOPD officers suspended just this month. The dept is made up if a bunch of TPOS. NOPD is a complete mess. Serpas needs to be fired.

The reason is that the people of Louisiana simply don't know what a competent police force is. Sadly, the NOPD is not much less competent or corrupt than the Livingston Sheriff's Department, Iberville Parish Sheriff, Jefferson Sheriff's office, EBR Parish Sheriffs, or BRPD. Louisiana people can't really complain because they've never experienced a competent police force to compare them to.

So ridiculous.

I will say that I would not be walking with a laptop at night the night after another brutal attack had been carried out two blocks away.

you know you're right, and I'm not saying its the police chiefs fault, but damn why cant they recruit the right people to fill the positions? Why cant we have more ex military, or raise the salaries to attract college educated officers? frick, I pay enough taxes in the damn parish, I'd rather have a revamped police force than a revamped OPP.

One of the reasons is that they are only able to hire people who reside in Orleans Parish.
