I can understand the desire for a QB for the future, but this is a win now league. I know that there is a fear of "what happens after Brees". You have to trust the front office to pull the trigger on the right player.

Bookmarked. This thread is certainly telling of alot of "fans".

The answer is not just no but frick no for millions of reasons. Anything can happen in football. Luck or Brees could break something or end there career at anytime. Trade a HoF, superbowl winning, field general, obnoxious amount of record holding, Savior of the Saints, greatest player to ever put on the black and Gold, Drew Brees for an untested Kid that has potential? Is that even a question. And I haven't even mentioned the Offensive play calling genius coach we have that gives us no reason to fear the team after Brees leaves. And if the team falls apart, frick it. I've been watching games in good times and bad my whole life and I don't plan on stopping any time soon.

Trading Brees for Luck is one of the dumbest ideas ever presented in the history of Saints Talk.

Brees is still in his prime and is one of the best QBs in the league, if not THE best. Luck may or may not turn out to be an elite QB.

So no, I would not trade Brees for Luck or any other QB in the league.

God help the world when Jeff Duncan makes a coherent, positive, and correct statement about the Franchise

I would keep Brees. A better question is would you trade him for Luck after 3 years? 5 years? or is the team/city so loyal that they would ride it out until he's ready to retire? Should loyalty be a factor or should it be "all business?" If trade him after 3 years if his performance dropped off significantly. What does significantly mean? I dunno.

You don't have to be a Drew Brees "fanboy" to be a Saints "fan". You can appreciate what the man has done to the fullest, but Saints fans were Saints fans long before Brees and will be long after Brees is gone.

Eventually everything comes to an end and teams have to move on and get younger. Just like Packers moved on from Farve to Rodgers, Colts moved on from Manning to Luck. Both Farve and Manning had more good years ahead of them, but when you see a franchise QB for the next 10-15 years you don't pass that up.

Seriously? That untested kid made and won a playoff game (Threw for 400+ yards) with a Colt's team that had a defense ranked in the bottom half of the league and with a fraction of the amount of offensive weapons to work with that Brees and the Saints have.

Plus throw in that offensive genius of a head coach you talked about.

Plus throw in the 15 million dollars less that Luck is making. Which would allow you to bring in a couple more stud players. (Luck + a franchise LT anyone?, Luck + a franchise LT and a stud LB?)

There's no reason Luck couldn't win now and into the foreseeable future.

There is too much chemistry between Brees and his recievers, and much more between Brees and Payton. No way I trade him. We have too much of a good thing going right now.

Still going to be saying that if Saints don't win the Superbowl this year? Then in 2015 and 2016 he's making 26 & 27 million dollars and the Saints have to fill holes with backups and green rookies because there's not enough cap room?

Never
The city is married to Brees.

If your wife's dying of cancer, you don't dump her and find a new girlfriend.

So you'd say your a bigger Drew Brees fan than you are a Saints fan.

Yeah because trading a player who's making 25 million dollars a year to play a game is equivalent to dumping your dying wife.

Brees will re-structure to be cap friendly so no problem there.

I will give you an A for effort at being a troll in this thread.

Not only no, but frick no.

Drew Brees is the face of the franchise and the face of the city he plays for. He's Mr. New Orleans. He's been loyal to us and done great wonders for the region. You do not trade a legacy like that away under any circumstances whatsoever.

We're in a win now league and there's way too any things that could go wrong with plugging luck into a new system. Go with what works and has been consistent.

I'm sure he'll restructure, but it won't be a ton. His cap hit will still be huge for the next few years. No matter how much he restructures it will be much more than Luck for the next couple years which is the point I was trying to make.

I'd rather Andrew Luck (who's already a very good QB with all signs pointing to being a great QB) and the cap space his contract allows than an aging Drew Brees with a contract that's what 20% of your cap.

How's it trolling to prefer the team be in great shape long after Brees is in decline and ultimately retires.

You're the one with a Drew Brees love affair that is more concerned with one player than the franchise. Just like all the Packer fans that loved Brett Favre so much that they'd rather trade Rodgers just so they could possibly have a few more years with him.

There's nothing wrong with starting look to the future when your QB no matter how great, is 35 years old. Especially as a fan. What the hell does it hurt for fans to discuss hypothetical situations in the freaking off season?

It's all a matter of opinion anyway, no need for the Brees lovers to get all butt hurt because another fan wouldn't mind knowing their team is in good hands for the foreseeable future.

That's cute. One playoff game? Also, have you seen the division Luck plays in?

So he did it once? There's still too much uncertainty and you have a guy now that is the best in the business and in his prime.. It's still not worth the risk of the unknowns..

Brees flourishes here.. you have no idea how Luck would respond.

Have you seen the offensive weapons he has to work with? Have you seen his defense? Have you seen his age? He's 24, 2nd year in the league, hasn't had the opportunity to win much more than that now has he. He's much better than Brees was at the same age. At 24 Brees lost starting job to 41 year old Doug Freaking Flutie.

In his prime and about to be making prime time money next year. He can restructure all he wants but between his and Jimmy's salary the Saints won't be able to afford to keep everyone.

I agree Brees flourishes here, but come on Luck is about as sure a thing as there is. The guy is brilliant, a leader and has all athletic ability in the world. Plus he's 6'4 230. There's no reason to think that with Sean Payton developing him the guy would be incredible for years to come.

For anyone to say this is outlandish to discuss this come on. The only thing outlandish is if anyone thinks the Colts would actually consider trading Luck for Brees. They choose Luck over Manning (albeit coming off neck injury). They would choose Luck over Brees.

Absofrickinglutely NOT

I think this might truly be the dumbest thread ive ever seen.

Plus, I truly believe that Brees could play for 10 more years. Favre came close, and didnt take care of himself nearly as well as Brees does.
