if harris is the better option, you play harris. simple as that. i'll trust cam cameron no matter what he does.

like i said whos gonna make the most mistakes when it counts? harris or jennings? they both will make mistakes.. now think about that.. and not if they are a frosh or 2 game veteran. then add harris arm and ceiling for making incredible plays

I have heard this thrown out there that there is not enough time for Harris to win the job game 1, and i think that this is a crock of shite. I think anyone that thinks that there is not enough time for him to win the job before game 1 underestimates his maturity and work ethic. And its not like Jennings is some experienced veteran. I'm sure there will be a lot of smart arse answers, but what say you rant?
. I think you:

A) care too much
B) are too emotionally invested
C) worried about things you can't control

Jennings will start, but by the time we start the conference I think it will be Harris.

I want Harris to start, but I think Jennings will get the nod against Wisconsin. If it were a home game, maybe Harris would get it, but I don't think they will put Harris under that much pressure in such a big game.

Jennings does have a couple of games under his belt. He was the winning QB both games, but by no means was he the QB that won the game. However, he knows what to expect and will already have a feel for the game.

For either QB starting against Wisc, we will be relying on our defense, running the ball, and playing a simple offensive game plan. I think this favors Harris, but I still don't think he will get the start unless Jennings falls apart in fall practices and Harris really shines.

if jennings starts and stinks it up like he did vs iowa, does he get pulled?

If Jennings starts, it will be hard for him to stink it up because he will be handing the ball off 80% of the time. Unless he is simply so far off target on his throws, it will be hard to pull him.

I'm thinking Jennings gets the ugly win against Wisconsin, Harris is brought in late in the next few games against the cupcakes and then takes over prior to the Miss St game. Just my 2 cents.

We have an elite defense and our two QBs each had a shot at them in the Spring Game and one looked clearly better than the other. I think that should be the biggest tell of who should start.

LSUTiger, you made some good points. This wasn't one of them. if you don't understand why, read Plato's allegory of the cave. Tl:dr, If all you can see are shadows (spring game) then you're bound to misunderstand the real world.

I don't know who will start, or finish, the season at QB, but don't look for more than the vaguest hints from the Spring Game.

From what I understand talking to various players, Harris is the favorite. His accuracy is better, his legs are better, his arms are better. He just doesn't have the maturity and veterancy that Jennings does. This isn't a knock on Anthony because I like him more out of the two.

Just sit back and watch the games. Reserve your judgment until later. There is reason why they penciled him as a starter. Don't make this like JL/JJ again. I can't stand that shite. It's fricking annoying. Then again, rant gun rant.

from another poster:

quote:

My 12 year old has been in 5 camps this summer with Brandon Harris. At one, Brandon brought Leonard Fournette. At another, Travin Dural. Malchi Dupre has been speaking glowingly of the young man ever since he joined the fray. Not that Freshman make any kind of determination on who will be behind center but all of these kids have a tremendous amount of respect for Brandon already.

When Mike Vick shows up at a camp and starts throwing fly patterns to the local talent and Brandon moves to the background when he was just throwing a better looking long ball - this kid exudes class. Tre White was at the last camp with Mo, Bennie and Lamin... All of these guys have fallen in love with Brandon and his demeanor and have publicly stated they think he'll be the starter.

Richard Murphy and Richard Dickson have been in camp with Brandon this summer and it was obvious they were both impressed with him. Brandon came to Jacob Hester's camp and was phenomenal with the kids. We've had our share of talented kids who made some poor decisions that embarrassed themselves, their families and the program. Brandon is not that kid.

I appreciate what Anthony did for us last year but he's clearly behind Brandon in his decision and play making ability. For a kid to come in with 3 months of study under his hat and separate himself like he did in the spring game. This kid could be a Jameis Winston without the 5 finger discount issues...

Nope ...
Les, will not start a true freshman over a QB that started 1 1/2 games ...

All I want is our best QB to play .. Time will tell.

But I like Harris Ball flight and Velocity on the ball.

What experience does Jenning have? He made some confidence boosting plays against Arkansas and then laid a big turd against Iowa. Harris has been here since January and participated in a full off season. Who's to say who knows the playbook better.

Well Jennings has been with Cam Cameron since the spring of 2013 and has played an entire football season under his direction. Yes, his playing experience may be negligible, but there is a lot of experience gained in practicing in a system for as long as he has. Yes, Harris did do himself a lot of favors by also being an EE, but he still has zero in-game experience and still has much less experience than Jennings.
quote:

I don't think we should be using this experience angle or knowing the playbook better as some automatic plus for Jennings.

it's not an automatic guarantee he is better or will start, but it does give him an advantage over Harris.
quote:

Who has the talent and who can make the plays is who should start.

who can best run the offense, protect the ball, and give LSU the best chance to win is who should start. There are a lot of very talented football players that can make more plays, but their inexperience could also lead to them being more prone to making mistakes. Those mistakes could end up being more crucial to wins and losses than their play making ability is.

At the end of the day, the guy who the coaches feel gives LSU the best chances of winning will start. And as of right now, no one knows who that is. Think of this like Mettenberger. It's understood that he is world better than Lee or Jefferson were, yet he did not start in 2011. He also didn't start to play well until the Alabama game in 2012. Sometimes, even though players may be "better" than guys starting in front of them, that doesn't necessarily that they're better for the team at that particular time.
