Barker was hurt, the backups were terrible, and they eventually had to put Palmer at QB.

1997 Florida will forever be overshadowed by the Jefferson Pilot Ole Miss debacle the very next Saturday. Good grief that was awful. Stewart Patrodge and John Avery dominated LSU.

the kind of games that Jefferson Pilot and whoever else got that sponsorship (I think Lincoln Financial had it) lived off of... b/c they basically got what was expected to be the worst game that week

ETA: as you saw in those highlights... the 20-whatever point underdog LSU game vs. Alabama was on Jefferson Pilot

Certainly a candidate - at least top 3 or so.

Hell - I'll say it was #1 because I can't think of one or two to put above it.

I don't recall seeing or hearing a single person make an objective opinion on the game that involved any possibility of LSU winning.
I don't say this often because I know I can't prove it, but as God is my witness, I was telling people all week I had a good feeling about this game, and I can't remember exactly why.

This game is largely forgotten in the pantheon of football upsets since the record book shows that Alabama went 1-12 that year.

I remember we went to the airport to welcome back the team. There were a lot of fans that went.

I was at the game. If Stallings would've put in David Palmer 10 min earlier, we would've lost. Lots of crying Bama fans. Drank it in like ambrosia.

What, if any, relation is Kenny to Ike Hilliard?

I'm pretty sure Kenny is Dalton's son, and Ike is Dalton's nephew.. right?

I was very young but I remember my brother yelling and throwing things at the TV when LSU was trying to hold onto the lead. It's probably what made me realize how great LSU football could be because of his passion.

2 words I'll never forget from that day: Ivory Hilliard.

bigger than the 1997 Florida upset?

Not even close. The '97 Tigers were loaded with a bevy of future NFL players. Outside of Mawae, the '93 team had little talent while the Tide was loaded on both sides of the ball. There were Gump fans trashing cars in the parking lot after the game. Pretty wild one.

Here's the LINK.

3 minute mark is possibly the greatest formation ever.

Barker was hurt and Bama struggled with Ole Miss and someone else. They were unbeaten, but they weren't unbeatable. They looked pretty flawed, it was just unlikely LSU could expose it. But Bama was due to get upset. I remember thinking we could pull it off as well. People forget we had a pretty solid defense back then. Gillyard and Northern were a good set of DE's and our secondary we pretty deep.

5:40 mark
Ivory Hilliard with the pick, then flips it to A. Marshall for more yardage on the return.

too bad all this did was give Hallman an extra year

I was in the stadium that day. Great effort by the Tigers. Curley earned an extra year for that game, but the writing was on the wall.
