At least every single bodybuilding and workout website/book I've looked to about that stuff says that. I was on a "see how many crunches and pushups I can do" kick, and once I looked into it, everything I read was basically like "Unless you make it more challenging for yourself (like adding inclines and extra weight), it turns into just cardio"
It will never turn into just cardio as it will, at the very least, maintain the strength level one reaches once they can perform the 333 push-ups each day. It is similar to a person that visits the gym each week and goes 10 reps of 135lbs. The lift will eventually become easy to him but he will maintain that strength level as long as he does it.

Not really in shape, but not heavy overweight etc either. 225lbs 5"11
If you are 5"11 225 and "not really in shape" you are absolutely overweight.

pushups are considered strength training and strength training is supposed to be something that is hard after a few sets of only a small number of reps.

pushups=strength training
pushups are supposed to be something that is hard after a few sets of only a small number of reps
Ask yourself if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Herschel Walker says hi
While Herschel Walker was once very ripped up and a very gifted athlete he was not what I would consider strong. He was great at doing push-ups and I believe anyone would love to look like he once did but he could have been much stronger had he trained for strength.

If you wanna do it for fun, that's cool, but pushups are considered strength training and strength training is supposed to be something that is hard after a few sets of only a small number of reps.
If you're doing hundreds of pushups, you're not longer strength training. You're doing cardio.
Um, it doesnt quite work like that.

Not for a weakass like me.
I haven't done anything in months and tried to crank some out. I got 24 straight and it started burning
Posted on 7/24/14 at 2:02 pm to Paedin
Easy. I've done 1k pushups in a day and been absolutely fine.

While doing hundreds of pushups won't HURT, it gets to a point where it's hardly helping and simply getting your heart rate up. Once it's retarded easy for you, it's like lifting a pencil 200 times or something

Pushups are not cardio. They are not an aerobic exercise. Pushups are anaerobic and build muscular endurance. Lifting a pencil 200 times is also not cardio and nothing like pushups.

Once very ripped? Here he is at 50!
Also, you wouldn't consider him strong? You really are saying some dumb shite today!

Well this is a good start point to make some changes I suppose. I'll weigh in Aug 1st.
Change my diet up, and i'll kick the soft drinks for the month. Add running a 1/2 hour every other day, and see where I am at the end of the month.
Offshore worker, gym easily accessible, and I can realistically control my diet. Mise well give it a shot.

Why don't you do some cardio and skip back on to the kitchen or laundry room.
No one asked you

This is how I feel. I'm almost certainly going to fail but I'll be in better shape for the effort

333 a day, which is ~28 a hour for 12 hours a day. I broke it down, offshore tour work.
I think its doable. Thoughts?
That's very doable by even non-elite atletes who've taken the time to build up their numbers. I did 400 4x per week (about 6400 per month) for most of my 20s. Again, I was in great "push-up" shape and could max out at about 120, but that's not super elite. Our gymnastics coach in HS issued a challenge to the wrestling team to do 1,000 in 45 minutes. None of us came close. He had a lightweight gymnast who knocked them about in what seemed likea bout 15 minutes.
That's elite.
