So let's be clear. The anti-capital punishment people harassed the drug companies providing the quick and easy cocktail. So now we have an unreliable cocktail. And that's whose fault?
A number of the drugs anesthesiologist use are unavailable for use during executions for political reasons, therefore the unreliable cocktail. It could be made to look so smooth. The drugs used are not the same used routinely everyday across the world for peaceful looking sleep/anesthesia. The patient was not suffering. No one's suffering when their body becomes so relaxed they can't maintain throat tone. It just looks ugly to the public/media so anti death penalty advocates run with the idea it must be painful because they can hear them breathing - oh the humanity.
The drug needed is propofol - already having a bad name in the press thanks to Michael Jackson. I can't tell you how many patients ask me if I'll be using propofol or not to put them to sleep. "The difference between you and Michael Jackson ma'am is that you're in a hospital being monitored while Michael Jackson was in his bed given propofol by a cardiologist."
However, propofol burns a bit when it goes in so I'm sure some inmate would say ouch as the medication went through the IV so it would likely be deemed to cause too much suffering for anyone to be killed with too. I guess I just cause people undue suffering everyday at work if thats the case.

Nope. He should have been gasping for a lot longer . The shite heads who defend him should be strapped in next to him.

Is the death itself the wanted outcome or is it the symbol it represents? Should the most heinous of crimes be punished by the most heinous of punishments, or is death where we should draw the line?
Justice is the desired outcome. There are crimes (look up the murder of the two kids in Tennessee or most of the family in Connecticut) that can only be repaid in blood. Sounds outdated, but most believe this way when it comes down to it.

Are some actions so damnable that they deserve more than an execution?
In my system of faith/morals/ethics, no.

Nope.
Wish they could have made it last longer.

I feel that there are crimes where death is not a sufficient punishment, but at that point, I guess you move beyond justice and into something else.

No problem when its deserved.

Yes. It 's called vengeance, and the two are not synonymous.

I've had this twice when I had lumbar branch blocks and nerve denervation. I didn't feel that it burned at all. It may have felt a little cold at first, but not painful at all. Besides, less than 5 seconds after they start injecting it into the IV, your arse is knocked out.
In fact, it's amazing. And I mentioned Michael Jackson. He said "I'm right here and I'm not going to let you die". When I went for the second one, I said "go ahead and give me the white stuff. I need some good sleep". I think it could be used as a very painless way for execution.

I thought that Louisiana was trying to as well? I'll look for a link, but I remember hearing it recently.
Give me a sec. I may be wrong though.
Eta: They tried to bring it back in February but it was shot down in April.

I support the death penalty, but I don't think it needs to be a macabre production.

2 hour execution? Why do we even bother pretending to be a civilized country

While studying Criminal Justice at LSU, I had a classmate do a report on capital punishment where she visited Angola and sat in the electric chair. She got an A.
Some years ago, I met one of the Corrections Officers who executed serial murderer Ted Bundy.

Do you understand what drugs he was on for 2 hours? Do you know what he felt? It may be unseemly on the surface, but he almost assuredly didn't feel a thing.

An Associated Press reporter who witnessed the execution saw Wood start gasping shortly after a sedative and a pain killer were injected into his veins. He gasped more than 600 times over the next hour and 40 minutes.
Sure, didn't feel a thing

Take your self-righteous indignation horseshite and shove it up your arse.
