Tamales arent the most-amazing things in the world

You need to keep eating. Go to Hot Tamale Heaven in Greenville, Ms. Or, try the Airport Lounge on the north end of Cleveland, Ms. If these don't change your mind, you just don't care for tamales.

If you feel this strongly, then I will have to check this place out.

Don't get me wrong- I like tamales, especially Manuel's because we grew up eating them- I used to even take a walk 2 blocks from my high school to get them for lunch, or after school- I've just never found them to be anything more than good convenience food.

The two recs I gave you are worth a stop if you are anywhere close to the locations. The best I ever had came from Shine Thornton, Maria's Famous Hot Tamales, but he was killed last year by a few thugs that mugged him in Greenville.

Then why the hell are the city slickers calling them "Delta" tamales?

I've been to white front, they are outstanding. Very hard to find. I was in Rosedale and drove around till I found an older guy that I was comfortable rolling down the window enough that he wouldn't kill me. He told me where it was (rosedale is only a couple blocks long on one street). I drove by it 3x, then finally found it. You walk into a one room house where the woman lives, there was no AC when I was there. There is one pot on the stove. You look for a menu, there is none. She asks "6 or 12". You fork over some money for a bundle of extremely cheap tamales on a styro plate, eat them in the house. They are really good.

Best tamale I've ever had was on the beach in Mexico. Guy was on his bike, locals running up like crazy to buy them. We bought one for something like 15 cents. It was in a green banana leaf. It was closer in size to a burrito. Instead of being stuffed, it was white masa with lots of veggies and chicken kinda rolled into it and then put in the banana leaf. Not greasy at all, moist and delicious. I had one very similar in new Orleans when the owner of Taqueria corona's mother through a private party.

I plan on taking a trip up to the delta sometime in the not-so-distant future and plan on trying a few of the places on my list, as well as others mentioned in this thread.

Manuels wasn't just the best, it was the ONLY.
The tamales at Ben's in da Parish (where I used to buy my Manuel's), are the closest I've had to Manuels. They are slightly larger, a little less greasy, and fall apart less.Easily my current favorite.

never had any on that list

I see Holly's Tamales around the quarter sometimes, but I don't trust white people to make good tamales.

Because Hi Hat is a "Delta" place. Cornmeal crusted whole fried catfish with greens and some tamales to start.. Damn fine eating.

Best I've had were the ones from Tucson Tamale Company a few years back at the Roadfood Festival in the Quarter. They had a roasted plantain wrapped in yam masa that was extraordinary.
