My wife buys 8 new pillows the day after Thanksgiving every year.

I wash my pillows every few months in the washing machine, plus I use zippered pillow protectors underneath the pillowcases.

I probably have some that are about 10 years old, but any that get too flat or don't retain their shape in the washer/dryer get tossed or get doubled up and used inside shams.

I'm closing in on 39 and have had the same pillow since I was at least 16. Not only that, it was one of my great aunt's pillows. There's no telling how old it is. It's a feather pillow at that, too.

My wife keeps threatening me she's going to throw it out. That would be grounds for divorce.

This pillow has been with me through puberty, through college, through those awkward few years after college, and been with me through marriage till my freaking wife decided that she was too disgusted by it and threw it away last night.

I've had mine for at least 10 years. It's the perfect pillow and can't find one like it anywhere.

My wife is trying to get rid of my pillow. She says it stinks like a mofo. It's one of those tempurpedic types, but I can't find another that is comfortable - and I've had a multi-level neck fusion so a comfortable pillow is as rare as the Hope diamond. And I sweat like a mofo due to meds I'm on and my love for thermal blankets. If I wake up during the night, I have to put a shirt on because my bed is too wet to lay back down on barebacked. My pillow is like a filthy sponge. And I'm not parting with it.

I've had mine for over 50 years. It has goose feathers in it and it's real firm.

My grandmother gave it to me in December 1963.
I have a somewhat similar story:

As far back as I could remember, I always had this one pillow that had my mom's name stitched into it. She attended a boarding school and her mother had stitched it that way. I always had other pillows on my bed but always slept with that one my whole life.

After she died, it became even more sentimental. When I moved out of my parents' house, I kept it there as my old bed in my old room was and is still there and I would sleep on it when I spent the night. One day I showed up there and couldn't find the pillow. Turns out my dad had accidentally thrown it away thinking it was just some ratty old pillow. I exploded and said some regrettable things to him. Completely lost my temper.

I have a memory foam one I've had for about 8 years. Have yet to find anything as comfortable so it's not going anywhere soon

I like pillows that are flat with very little volume....so I don't wash it...and it's old cause I need to wear in the flatness.
