Looks like some finger smudges to me.

Broke, it doesn't look too bad. Was this your first attempt?

We used to use leaves and other vegetation as a "negative pattern" when applying diff colors to our weapons and gear.
You might want to try that.
Fern fronds work great.

Took the bolt and the charging handle out since I didn't want those painted. Taped the front sight, trigger and grip
