Wasn't Manziel coming off an injury? Also, didn't it rain?
---------------
"First difference would be Manziel was in a pro-style offense/sometimes-spread where he would scramble after going through (or pretending to) his progressions."

LMFAO. A whole lot of fail in one sentence.

Could someone with a better understanding of the schemes explain how LSU and John Chavis could have done so well stopping Manziel on the ground and struggle so mightily against Prescott?

Atm rubs a lot of 4 and 5 wide. Chavic employed a 3dl 2lb and 6db look to both cover and run down manziel

Miss state runs a power read option with elements of off tackle keepers with two lead blockers and a little spread. A bit like Pat White and WVU ran with more passing

Prescott wasn't who we schemed for. Tyler Russell ran way less if at all compared to Dak. Dak gives Merlins traditional options as a Playcaller running his variant of the Triple Option versus single high and double deep safety looks. They will try to run WAY MORE with Dak compared to Sumlin no matter who is at QB.

Manziel's runs in most instances were absolutely not called called from the sideline. Almost all Dak's are not necessarily called for but designed for him to do so based on the defense and how it plays the playcall.

you can't take every recruit, but sure would have been nice to have Prescott on the team this coming season. He is a big tough QB that presents challenges to any defense. I like the potiential and upside of what we have at QB but Prescott would have been a solid starter and we wouldn't have question marks about the most important position on the field with him at QB.

Well them having the ball 3 extra times without us scoring doesn't really help now does it. Especially when ur defense basically gets 1-2 plays of rest then has to trot back out there. I love airing the ball out as much as the next, but it doesn't help ur defense.

game was early in the season and the other was later when the d started clicking.

Agree - as much as anything our young D was more mature vs A&M. Did Robinson play vs MSU?

Posted by Message madddoggydawg Defending a Scrambler: Manziel vs. Prescott (2013) Bro also did well against us. This is what bothers me so much about the Auburn game this year. Yes, it says a great deal about our scheme vs. spread running attacks to shut down aTm and Auburn last year, but if Ole Miss can have success against it, it isn't impenetrable.

IMO, we did much better against Ole Miss late. For some reason, we seemed to be out of position a whole lot versus Ole Miss during the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Also, our offense turning over the ball 3 times gave them three extra possessions. I don't know why we seem to play our worst games against them. Even when Tubby and Cutcliffe were there; we just don't play them well. Ole Miss also gave a lot of team trouble last year.
