Did I name her? You want more sordid details (there are plenty). You can't see the point of the thread? Really?

No I got it, just didn't see the need to drag some family through the mud while you were at it.

It's not like anybody knows who she is...

How would a "good uncle" have responded?

Hmm? How about,

quote:

My niece respected life and didn't abort her child. In the face of odds against her, with a little help from me, and some help from the government, she'll be able to finish school, raise my grand-nephew/niece, get a great job and be a contributor to society and a success story instead of just another ambitionless government tit sucker. I'm really proud of her for making good choices after making foolish ones.

That might work.

Yep. That'd work for some. I'd prefer:

quote:

My niece made a life altering mistake, but took responsibility for her actions. She decided to rear her child and do so without the unnecessary gift of public assistance. She worked her way through school, provided adequately for her child, with family help ( which she's certainly had), and by her own actions has created a great history from which her child can learn.

That's what I'd like to say happened. And it would have, but for the free sugar offered by our warped political system.

What he really means with the family slams is he doesn't like your story and how dare you bring it into the light. Libs enjoy the dark.

Nah, it just makes your political beliefs look fricking moronic, so you have to take the "moral high ground" route to salvage some face.

My sister and brother in law live in Nela and house her and her child, along with their other two children.

1. None of us know who is niece is.

2. His point is that public policy rewards bad behavior.

3. Using personal stories as examples is common in political discussions.

She was in undergrad and paying her way with help from her grandparents' frugal savings. Then, she spits out a child. Lo and behold! She qualifies for enough governmental assistance and Medicaid to pay living expenses , tuition and fees for both undergrad and masters degrees. Still has college fund savings left in the bank. God bless the U S taxpayer.

i actually think this is a really good thing.

quote:

My buddy has twin girls in pharmacy school. They failed to get pregnant and have children their entire college careers. Maybe he's the only one of the three that got screwed...he ( or the girls through student loans) is footing the entire bill without any taxpayer provided reward.

I have two boys in college. The likelihood of one getting pregnant and winning the toddler scholarship is slim. We have an awesome system in place.

This is the part we should be focusing on fixing.

The only time I see you in a thread you're just rolling your eyes and throwing out high school insults. Come on man, it isn't THAT damn hard to contribute.

Yeah I really don't understand why we make people pay for college. Should be free to those who want to better themselves.

I agree. In fact, I don't see why we make people pay for new cars. Should be free since they just want to drive to work.
