Lester's better than Garza, but he's not better than Hammels. He's a marginal ace, if an ace at all.

Well, I think we all already know that. That offer was an offer for Hamels... it wasn't going to get it done and they know that.

And that package is a lot stronger than the Cubs got for Garza.

Which is why it's fitting for Lester. With that said, what the Cubs got a great package. It can be argued that it's just as good as the one that was mentioned for Hamels. Olt was a top 25 prospect and Edwards is now ranked ahead of Martinez on the prospect food chain.

Few teams will load up prospects like that - I've never seen St Louis do it. I don't see it.

They might not do it but if they are going after these aces, it's a price they're going to have to pay.

The Rays face a tough decision on Price: they would face serious internal repercussions for moving him at this point, but are tantalized by the possibilities of a return. Nightengales suggests that Tampa has reason to believe it could pry Oscar Taveras, Shelby Miller, and a 2015 first-round compensation pick from theCardinals in a swap involving Price.

I think the Rays would be stupid to pass that up.

And we'd be stupid to do it.

Don't think the #STLCards are acquiring Lester, either. Hear they are focusing more on David Price.

Yeah I already edited, we're going to fricking give up Taveras and Miller for Price from the sounds of it and I'm going to jump off a cliff.

Source: #Phillies have received no offers for Hamels, nor have they made any specific requests. No meaningful dialogue.

You won't if they make it to the WS or re-sign him.

Oh we'd resign him for sure, would be part of the deal, and he enjoys STL as it is, that wouldn't be hard at all.

But that doesn't change the fact that Taveras is a our top prospect, and with a huge bat with huge potential at a position where we have Allen Craig who can't hit jack shite this year with no one else to really play the position. We need to get younger in the OF, not give away our top prospect out there.

Miller idgaf about, he needs to go, dude is a headcase and prick, most of the team hates him and almost all of the front office do not like him, and he was a prick when he was here in Springfield as well along with his DUI. Miller is equal to Colby Rasmus in STL.

But you're not giving away your top prospect. You're gaining a bonafide ace and trying to win a championship this year.

Just imagine Wainwright, Price, and Wacha going into the post season. I think that would make you guys the favorite coming into the post season.

Wacha is best case back in September, I don't think we'd be trading for another ace if he was healthy or if they felt good on his return this season.

We struggle to hit, big time, hate to give up top prospect at a position we are very very weak at.

I love Price, too.

Sounding more and more likely Lester is heading to Pittsburgh, all I'm seeing now.

Olt was a top 25 prospect only because the prospect lists hadn't been revised. Everyone knew he was tainted and had vision problems that he had struggled getting over.
As for whether multiple top 50 prospects is what will be paid for Lester (not really an ace), we'll find out.
I say that price won't be paid.

I don't think anyone will give 2 top 50s for Lester. So if he goes to Pitt, that will tell us.

Pitching, pitching, pitching, and timely hitting. They could use another bat, but I like those scrappy teams with great pitching in the playoffs. Who knows, they might have something else up their sleeve. Maybe Joyce goes with Price too or they go get Rios from Texas.
