That's easy for a 1/2 ton these days.

Get a 3/4 ton with 4.10's and you'll die before the engine wears out.

12K easy for a 1500? Doable, not sure about easy, if your only hauling that a couple times a year then ya.

12k 60 miles a couple times a year is almost doable for a Tacoma with a good brake box and no tongue weight.

Trucks these days are tough as hell.

Ill take your word. I know when I hooked mine up to a 31-32ft contender weighing a lil more than 10K with no trailer brakes I was a lil nervous.

It pulled it decent but we weren't going to far.

A 4 banger Tacoma will drag a shitload of weight on blacktop. Tongue weight and stopping power are what matter for occasional towing.

A 3/4 ton is such an huge step up in capability over a regular half ton truck. A diesel is a huge step up over that. I've yet to meet anybody who works a diesel pickup to its full designed capability short of professional hot shot guys.

Found a '10 duramax with 80k miles listed at 29k. Beef plate on the front and no pics of the bed make me wonder though

I wouldn't be scared of one that's been worked. If it's been maintained well how much it's been worked doesn't matter a whole hell of a lot.

You can pretty much always tell a truck that was well taken care of vs one that wasn't by looking at it. Gooseneck ball or draw tite with fresh but flaky paint? Do not buy.

Lightly rusted frame and towing equipment and 100% spotless engine bay? Do not buy.

In both of the above cases they are trying to hide something. Find a truck that looks like it's been well taken care of and the owner wasn't trying to frick you. You'll know it when you see it.

Always remember, you have the money and you have the power. Don't get in a hurry if you're not in a bind.

I'm terrible at buying shite. By the time I convince myself I'll spend the money, I'm not walking away empty handed. I've walked away with a lot of crap because of this

I thought you quit that and were working rigs or something?

Just a question, you were never interested in switching to game warden?

I went through their whole hiring process and was set to start the academy but a situation came up. Was a blessing because I don't think I would have enjoyed it. I save my vacation for winter to hunt, don't want to spend that working and who wants to spend all summer in a boat, no beer, and no fishing pole?

I've been putting in applications at plants and stuff but with my only plant experience being 14 years ago I'm not getting any bites

Youtube Video

These guys are more concerned with which 3/4ton gasser is fastest, but it is a decent comparison video.

I'm not going to watch it and guess that the 6.0 finished last. It can't touch the top end of fords 6.2 or the ram.

It's not a performance engine, though it can be made into one. It's made to work hard reliably for a lot of miles.

If you ever want a very rough idea of how two engines stack up in durability, the lowest hp/liter will be the heavier duty engine barring any design flaws.

Depends what your wanting to pull - I pull a trailer with a GVWR of 7750lbs and a loaded tongue weight of about 750lbs (with a WD hitch) behind my 1/2T - 2014 Ram CC with the 5.7Hemi with no problems. Figure out what the max you are going to tow is and build your truck around it that way, don't buy your truck and than decide what you want to tow...

The other thing that may change ratings for the big 3 is the new SAE towing standards. These came out in 2009, toyota adopted in 2011, and the big three are adopting for 2015.

If you test drive this, show and do it from a cold start.

If it's private party, tell the guy you're coming at 10 and show up at 9. If starts and runs and shifts good cold, it's probably AOK. Get it up to temp and on the highway as well, but make the first part of the test drive stop and go traffic.

FTF...I just bought one in March. Its a 2014 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 CC with th 6.0 and 3.73 gears. It pulls my tractor and TT with no problem at all.Unloaded being easy on it I am getting 15.5-15.8 on the road.Very happy with my purchase.I was worried about the ride since its a DD but it rides really nice for a 3/4 ton.
