The Conjuring Spoilers.......................

Nobody dies. Horror movies require a death or what's the fear? Where's the threat?

I'm not a fan of modern horror movies, but I enjoyed the hell out of the Conjuring. TTFWIW.

There WAS one guy in our viewing of the conjuring, sitting by himself, who would explode in laughter anytime that something scary would jump out. But I think he was just looking for attention. (He would also shake his cup of ice very loudly between each sip of soda.)

the conjuring reminds me of something made in the 70s or 80s (and no not because that is when it is set)

It was great (again, the horror genre's best two films are probably the Exorcist and Halloween so saying the conjuring is great isn't out of this world praise)

that's what was good about it. You were sure someone would die, nobody did, but it was tense throughout.

They should have changed the name to "The Clapping".

I liked Sinister even though I was pretty stoned. Kind of a fricked up movie with showing the families dying in different ways and whatnot.

I was pretty stoned for Conjuring as well and found it flat out laughable. I couldn't believe my sister could only watch it in segments.

I knew someone wouldn't die, it was based on a true story. Maybe that's what killed it for me. There were no surprises and I wasn't scared at any moment. Seriously. Nothing. The best part of the movie was when they started filming in that old style camera, but they only did it for a short time and nothing happened.

Sinister at least had some scary parts. If you want to see a real scary movie, watch Martyrs (2008) or Rec (2007). Those movies will knock you on your arse.

To me, it wasn't that scary, just fricked up. I enjoyed it

Eta- I'll check those movies out.

Let's be honest, a horror movie isn't going to be good unless your mood is right.

I watch the Exorcist at 2 in the afternoon with people walking in and out of the living room and I say it's "OK", but if I watch it at night by myself I shite the bed.

My mood/setting was the same for both Conjuring and Sinister.

Sinister just hit on a different level

I'm sorry, but The Conjuring reminded me too much of The Amittyville Horror for me to give it too much praise.

In fact, for the first 20 minutes of the movie I was sure The Conjuring was based on the same 'True Story" as The Amittyville Horror.

the horror genre has been and always will be 99% garbage.

Horror movies I liked

The Conjuring
The Exorcist
Jaws
Halloween
Scream (and it isn't horror so much as thriller and parody)

yeah, that's about it.

Elysium scared the shite out of me...the message was, yeah move to the suburbs and we'll come and ruin that place too.

Rec (2007) is the best horror movie ever made, IMO. It's an unbelievable experience.

excellent point...depends on where you watched it, what time of year, what time of day, with whom, under what circumstances

I mean Jason movies scared me to death as a child watching them in a basement with a creepy outside hallway with doors and windows, and it was late, and I was alone, etc.

I'll check it out. Last horror movie I was recommended was VHS and that was worse than Conjuring.

VHS is alright. Rec is one story all the way through.

I'm in the mood for a good horror movie.

Would "Rec" be the board consensus?

I'm not sure what the board thinks. 96% on Rotten Tomatoes if you want another opinion.
