Read this: ZERO QB THEOREM
I think it'll change your mind. I waited and was the last person in my league to pick a starting QB. I got Stafford and won my league handily. Maybe the issue isn't that you havn't won since drafting a QB early, rather you just havnt drafted well at other positions when waiting for a QB in later rounds? Not trying to flame or talk down, just my inferences. Unless you're in a 6 points per passing TD or keeper league, and already have starters at skill positions, then I personally cant justify taking a QB in the 1st round, or even 2nd for that matter. But then again, that's just my line of thought and strategy. Everybody has their own thing and that's the beauty of Fantasy Football. For the most part there is no sure-fire, by-the-book way of drafting and playing.

I believe there's a winning strategy for whatever is available to you in the first round. If you are picking in the top 3, I tend to think going with one of the elite rb's is best due to relative scarcity. After that you shouldn't obsess over the idea that you must get a rb in the first round. You just need to get an elite player.
If you pass up Megatron, Aaron Rodgers, or even Jimmy Graham for Doug Martin or Alfred Morris then I think you're doing it wrong. The key strategy for winning is getting the most number of players possible that score the farthest away from the average for their position. You don't do that by locking into positions.

It depends on the league that I'm in.
One is very bonus heavy and a great passing QB like Brees or Manning can take you to a championship.
I draft the others on feel.

i usually go for RBs and try and nab the Alex Smiths of the world later on . Wont blow the game for you and can put up a consistent, average score.

These days there are a ton of QBs that can get you a pretty solid performance. On the other hand, drafting Rice, Foster, Martin, etc. didn't exactly work out for people last year either. In the end, I think it still comes down to getting solid production out of your RBs. That doesn't mean you have to draft them early, just make sure you draft a lot of them.
I read that last year and I thought the analysis was pretty stupid. All it really showed me was that the average margin of victory was greater than the average weekly QB point total.

Uhhhh, yeah...that's the point. It shows how meaningless having an "elite" QB is and the disparity between starters isn't that much. Here's another one that's more recent LINK
Basically says the same thing, without saying the same thing...or the same argument/conclusion, different way of getting there.
