Man, someone needs to tell this to all of the young people moving into the city over the last 5 years or so.

$1500 a month will get you a super nice newly renovated place in the hood these days. It won't get you nearly as much in a decent neighborhood. But it can be done for less than $1500 if you have a large network of people here. The good affordable rentals around me never actually go up for rent. They're passed from friend to friend without a lapse when one of them moves out. A tiny dungeon apartment rented for $1100 a few blocks from me this week. The sign was up less than a week.
If you see a place, can afford it, can tolerate it and the landlord, and aren't sketched out by the neighborhood, jump on it immediately. It won't last.
And OP, don't waste your youth in Metairie. I don't care how close it is to your job. You want to be closer to fun and friends than work. And your friends and fun won't be in Metairie. Driving 15 minutes twice a day is way better than driving 15 minutes every time you want to do something.

If your salary is 52k then your take home would be close to 3500 a month. A 1500 dollar place is out of your budget. With that said I have a lot of friends living there on 36k-45k. They all teamed up and rented places together in uptown or mid city so they did three bedrooms and pay about 600-700 a piece. If your single, try to room with a friend or two and your enjoy the city so much more. Another small tip, always carry cash in NO. Most places require a 5-10 dollar min charge per debit card transaction.

Get a roommate and keep your rent under $1000/month. Look uptown and mid city imo.

Salary is 52,000.
Take that shite! Good starting salary for 2014 almost anywhere in the country.
I mean, that is unless your job would typically pull $80. If that is the case tell them to f off.

Just curious, what position were you offered with P&N? I used to work for them in BR and $52,000 right out of school is high for them.
