I doubt they put up the same numbers together.

Me too. Their numbers would be even better..

We would have had a top 5 Center, a top 3 PF, the best stretch 4 in the league and a solid back-up Center. What other team could have matched that?

We'll just have to agree to disagree there.

Can you link to this? I haven't seen this. I'm just curious, and not questioning you.

Noel Adjusting to Physical Sid eof Game

The coaches know that he will always have problems putting on weight because of his frame. He may be able to get up to 230-235 at the begining of a season, but I cannot see him maintaining his weight during the year. Embiid has a strong core and the frame to put on real weight. He is a C and PHI was smart to get him to pair with Noel.

I think Noel will be a very good PF.

I'm not sure where I stand on Al Jefferson. His talent can't be denied, but you have to wonder how well he fits next to AD with Monty as coach. He's not known for his defense and one of the biggest problems from last year was Monty's preference for hard hedging that took AD away from basket and left us without a rim protector. I honestly think Asik is a better fit with AD than Jefferson given the current coach.

You seem to consistently imply that our organization is playing Wooden-era basketball and is so far behind the curb intellectually.

Not Wooden era, stuck in 90s hoops. The game has been fundamentally changed with the introduction of zone defenses and the hand check rule. Mike DAntoni and Thibs have had more impact in evolving the modern game than anyone else. That isn't to say you can't win w/ 2 bigs. But the type of guys the Pelicans have picked or how they have utilized them just doesn't quite match up with this new reality.

There are really smart basketball people who looked at a Davis-Noel pairing and said it might not be the best idea, even "small ball" advocates

Yep. I'm not advocating for Noel on the Pelicans at all- just that saying he is a backup or can't play C at this point is as ludicrous as saying he would lead the Pelicans to a title. Noel/Davis wouldn't really be small ball. If anything, it would be two bigs who like to operate high post/FT line extended.

The Sixers have been quoted as saying they are betting on the league getting smaller. I made no value judgment, just that they are on a different time table and are more willing to wait Noel out to see what he becomes than the Pelicans would be.

Brett Brown interview w/ Lowe

quote:

I don’t see it [as the future]. And I could be entirely wrong. You have to embrace the 3. We embrace the 3. We’ve embraced it as much as anybody, I hope. We’ve encouraged Spencer [Hawes] and Thaddeus [Young] — dragged them out and spaced the floor. I think the future of the game is the Ryan Anderson type. One of your bigs has to be able to do that. But to just scream up and down the floor, and jack 3s — I don’t like that.

quote:

But not one person, whether they're in love with small ball or not, has argued that a bigs rotation of Davis-Asik-Anderson is not excellent. Seems to me that trio can play any style you want.

No shite. Asik is by far the best move Demps has made since signing Anderson. I have been fully on board with it from the get go. I didn't like the protection on the pick, but it wasn't awful by any means.

Edit:

I could have sworn I read something about Brown saying Noel is a 5. All I could find is this

quote:

"Every time I see Joakim, I hope I’m seeing what we get in Nerlens,” Brown said during a media event, via Mark Strotman of Comcast SportsNet. “He’s one of the prime examples that I point to as we try to groom a young player."

Either way, that might have changed some with Embiid.

Thanks!

It's like I was reading a rookie year write up on Davis.

The deal with the 76ers was happening if any of these 3 players were available

Len
Noel
Bennett

The trade was facilitated before the draft, and had those 3 players been selected before our pick we were taking Trey Burke.

So stop talking about Nerlens Noel

I remember hearing similar after the fact, but I think swap out either Bennet or Len for Oladipo. As far as the Trey Burke part, I think that was the common speculation, but with Monty and Demps wanting defense at the point of attack, I think they might have taken MCW.

The fact is as we saw with the Spurs this past season you can have currently the best player in the world but not have the right fit

Nerlens and AD have similar skill set and are both too small to play C in the NBA

We would have two fantastic players that fit horribly next to each other (remnants of Asik and Howard) with AD and Nerlens...we'd be great on NBA2K14 but suck in real life

And while people rip on Jrue I honestly think he is in a class with Tony Parker and CP3 bc he does what needs to be done to win. Sometimes he's the leading scorer, sometimes he just facilitates, sometimes he plays off the ball as a shot up shooter, sometimes he sets up the offense, and more often than not he combines these in a single game. The point is that Jrue takes what the defense gives him and that's what puts him IMO as one if the best PGs in the league

Guys like Westbrook, Irving, Lowry, Curry, etc fill up the stat sheet and make All-Star games but I'd rather Jrue bc he's one of those guys that can "fit" well in almost any system

People only rip on Jrue after comments like this. He's a good, young, 2 way PG. He has some obvious flaws in his game, but everyone not LeBron does.

Your fit stuff on Noel and Davis works perfectly here. To me, Holiday is not a PG that needs to be running an offense. He can create, but he needs to play more off ball. He just isn't the type of player who can be an engine for an offense. He would be perfect as a Triangle type pg.

Fair enough I'm a pelitard

My point is that Jrue isn't as bad as people say (even though I went hard in the opposite direction)

I'm just a big Jrue fan
