I also think (unpopular opinion) but baseball needs bunch of African American stars to market as well. The "diversity quotient". Andrew McCutchen is nice but he plays in Pittsburgh and Matt Kemp is overrated.
I think the MLB execs would agree with you. That's why they've been trying to push their RBI program for years now.
Related story (not a CSB): I was at a child's birthday party a few weeks ago, mostly attended by African Americans. Overheard a conversation between one of the older kids and another parent that went something like this:
Adult: You play ball for school?
Kid: Yes sir, I play.
Adult: Good, good. Football? Basketball?
Kid: Baseball.
Adult: Baseball?? Don't see too many of us playing baseball these days.
And then he just kinda tailed off. He had no interest in continuing the conversation with the kid once he found out he was playing baseball. I jumped in and talked a little baseball with the kid, but I thought it would have been nice to have the AA adult in the situation at least lend some encouraging words to the kid (like he was obviously going to do had the kid said football/basketball), and not treat him like a leper as soon as he said he played baseball.

True, but its not as fun when you kick everyone's arse. Though it'll be nice to see AD kick arse and take names on an international stage.

Dude you hit the nail on the head! There's also a sense with baseball it's a much harder road, you know riding the bus in triple A etc. And baseball had a number of really great AA athletes in the 90s, Deion, Ken Griffey, Bo. I see more black guys doing the ESPN baseball broadcast than I do on the field. Well not so much now after they fired Hal Reynolds.

Basketball is not at all a year round sport.
It is only really in the spotlight during the Allstate break/ playoffs and then free agency in big years like this one
When it's on during football season and nba player are loafing around for 82 games, no one gives a shite.

Baseball Ratings are down on Fox/ESPN it is dying
PEDS ruined baseball
My friends don't watch baseball
The season is too long
The games are too long
They have no superstars
This.
The only baseball I watch is LSU.
I'd love for soccer or rugby to take over as the 3rd sport in the US

MLB is first and foremost a local sport. People just don't care much outside of their own teams. It doesn't have the national appeal

People watch baseball??
I know a few people who still casually follow baseball, but I don't know anyone who is devoted to it (I'm sure they exist).
Most of us plan many of our fall activities around football games. No one does that for baseball.

Ok.
I'm glad you have an opinion.

I love football but the constant ESPN coverage during the offseason can be a bit much mainly because they create stories out of nothing

I hope you were not serious

MLB is the only pro sport I follow or care about from beginning to end
I wish it were more popular nationally but face it most people in this country are morons without the patience or appreciation

Just explained myself.
I am serious.
No baseball isn't dying and PEDs didn't ruin the game. But the games are too long and there are too many games. IMHO
ETA: I also played baseball non stop as a kid and I hated my coach and I got burt out on it, so I may be biased.

Baseball season isn't any longer than any other sport
Baseball games aren't any longer than any other sport
Regional ratings are great

Regional ratings are great
This is all that really matters
Local ratings dominate hence the large TV contracts
This is what teams care about, ticket sales and local TV ratings

Feels like it. Which is all that matters. Just like some movies feel shorter than others but are the same time.

A dumb Lebron fan, shocker.
Posted on 7/15/14 at 2:58 pm to WITNESS23
Feels like it isn't a fact, the baseball season from preseason to World Series isn't any longer than NFL training camp to Super Bowl or NBA training camp the Finals
