Over Jeter? No
Yankees have had great players and because of his consistency Jeter has surpassed many Yankee records. Dude is one of the All-Time greats because of it. He had some outstanding seasons for the Yankees and was a key cog in several championship caliber teams.....

Everyone has a personal favorite some will put Maris, Jackson, Winfield, Posada, Bernie, Pettite, Lefty, Phil, Elston, etc a over Jeter but you are really hard pressed to find 10 Yankees better.

During their prime yes, Nomar was a hell of a player for the Sox when he came up

I remember watching Jeter play in Columbus for the AAA Clippers. Its amazing how fate happens sometimes. What most people will never know is that Derek Jeter was a 2nd baseman for the Clippers. The Yankees had a stud SS by the name of Ryan Beeney. He hurts his knee, Jeter moves over to short and the rest is history. Crazy to think what might have been?

Fwiw, Jeter has been an average at best defensive SS in his career.

Jeter has been overshadowed by a guy with half as many hits and fewer home runs? Okay

Well they have a lot wrong with that post to begin with, Jeter's defensive ability being the least of it

Jeter, to me, is the Tom Brady of baseball. A winner, helluva leader, probably a tad overrated but iconic.

I don't think I've ever debated that Manning is the better passer. I think being a QB is more than stats though, so I would still take Brady.

Back on point, Jeter is 100% respected in New York, by Mets and Yankee fans alike.

George would have loved to be there tonight.

Okay, what else then? Rings? Postseason appearances? Batting average? All Star games? Awards? Girlfriends?

Compare OBP, OPS+, and a myriad of other statistics. Counting stats are very misleading.

So you can count stats, but only when they help your argument?

I threw a cavalcade of stats, tangibles, and plaudits at you, and then you responded by citing stats. Nice job of playing both sides of the fence.

I believe he's referring to stats that are skewed by career longevity such as hits, home runs and rbi. Similar to what I was saying earlier as to why Jeter is the Yankee leader in hits.

Jeter is easily one of the top SS of all time and the length of his career is impressive and he deserves respect. So does all other players who have played for a long time. With that said records like hits can be skewed by how long you played and number of at bats obviously.

For this reason those kind of records are in a lot of ways more impressive because it shows they played at a high level for a longer time.

What are you talking about?

Jeter played a long time, of course he's going to have a ton of hits, walks, and other various counting stats.

People like Nomar obviously didn't play as long, but had a higher peak as determined by efficiency statistics. Jeter is a fantastic player, and well respected... that doesn't mean he had the greatest peak of all time, and certainly doesn't mean he was always the best SS when he played.
