I remember watching Jeter play in Columbus for the AAA Clippers. Its amazing how fate happens sometimes. What most people will never know is that Derek Jeter was a 2nd baseman for the Clippers. The Yankees had a stud SS by the name of Ryan Beeney. He hurts his knee, Jeter moves over to short and the rest is history. Crazy to think what might have been?

I kinda liked that.

Baseball is sentimental. I don't mind seeing superstars honored like this

Chipper Jones didn't need a commercial for his send off. frick Jeter. I kid, I kid. True story. This whole Yankee send off crap with Mariano Rivera and now Derek Jeter is over the top.

As an avid Braves fan and lifelong Yankee hater, gtfo. Jeter was a major reason his teams won 5 World Series titles. Chipper, as much as I love the dude, never helped to elevate his team in that same capacity. Chipper is certainly in the discussion as one of the very great baseball players; Jeter is in the discussion for top SS and top Yankee of all time

I think people forget Ripken being honored.... guy made the All-Star game while hitting .240/.270/.324 at the break with 4 home runs, 28 RBI, 7 doubles, 10 walks, 22 strike outs, in 225 AB.....

He made it on honor and reputation.... Things are a little bit crazier now in the way EVERY team honors a retiring player. Again both Jeter and Mo garnered respect from their peers in a way very few before them had.

Exactly. Everyone hating thinking that yanks are getting preferential treatment these last two years, but both Mo and Jeter deserve it and are in discussion for greatest player of all time at their respective positions.

Again, this comes from a lifelong Yankee hater. These guys deserve it. The people that are truly hating on all of this are either completely ignorant to baseball and baseball history or are just trolling to troll.

Great commercial. Hate the yankees but respect Jeter. Not too many players stay with a team as long as he has, and was such an impact as well. Suprised Obama didn't tip. I'm gonna have to go to a Houston game and tip my hat to him. Well frick, just checked the schedule, it aint happening.

I said in the discussion for that honor, which he is, but good job quoting just enough of my statement to make it fit your argument.

Nah, Jeter is a great player and he has been MR. Consistent but he is far from being best ever at his position. Despite the Gold Gloves he has been an average/sub par defensive player for the majority of his career. Offensively Jeter has been over shadowed at SS by the likes of Nomar, A-Rod, Ripken, Tejada, as Jeter didn't hit for much power during his career he only hit 20 home runs 3 times in his career, he only hit more than 40 doubles 1 time in his career, and he only stole 30 bases 4 times in his career, but what he was as consistent... You knew each year you would get those 200 hits, 15 or so home runs, and 20-25 stolen bases with a nice .300 average, .350+ OBP, and .450 slugging

No chance in hell.. Better?

Mantle, Berra, Gehrig, Ruth, DiMaggio, Mattingly, Maris, Whitey Ford, are all better Yankees than Jeter.

I love Mattingly but no.....

Munson, Mantle, Yogi, Ruth, Gehrig, Joe D, Ford, you could argue others such as Maris as well. I personally think it would go

Ruth
Gehrig
Joe D
Mantle
Yogi
Ford
Munson
Jeter

I forgot about Munson.. Would you put Reggie Jackson in that list as well even though he didn't play his entire career with the evil empire?

You kidding me?

I love Jeter, but he's behind Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio and Mantle. Even diehard Yankee fans would agree.

I agree with this list, but I'd put Jeter ahead of Munson.

Jeter has been overshadowed by a guy with half as many hits and fewer home runs? Okay
