In the olympics everything was announced in English, French, & the host countrys language.

No we learn enough to pass the class then brain dump it.

In Europe they learn it to function many times ive seen people from different countries use English to speak to each other.

Imagine that you live in Georgia. Now everyone in Florida speaks another language. Texas, Tennessee and Louisiana also have their own langauges. Alabama, Mississippi and the Carolinas speak a mix of surrounding languages.

So as an educator in Georgia, it would be prudent to teach extensively the languages of Florida and Texas and to a lighter extent Louisiana and Tennessee so the children will have greater chances of communication when they're adults.

Now in our universe, everyone in the USA speaks the same language more or less. If anything, we have the freedom of NOT having to learn another language to function just about everywhere in the country. Europe is not so lucky.

Exactly, it's more beneficial for other countries to learn English than the US having to learn French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish...
