I still don't understand why we are giving up a first rounder for Asik when they need to get rid of him.

And his contract is not guaranteed, so chances are he won't even put on a Pels uniform.

so we are just doing the Cavs a solid

For those asking: I'm told Alonzo Gee will indeed wind up in New Orleans and Brendan Haywood deal with Charlotte is a separate deal for Cavs

If we are waiving him we would be getting a 2nd round pick.

So the Cavs are giving us a 2nd round pick just to have the honor of waiving him? That doesn't make sense.

because asik isn't some scrub they are trying to dump. other teams likely wanted him too but we put forth best offer

It doesn't make sense for us to help them clear space by trading for a guy, waiving him and getting no appreciable gain.

I just need to know the angle here. I'm not a salary cap expert.

I think Gee's non-guaranteed contract gives Demps the ability to complete the Asik trade without losing any good assets (namely Ryno and Rivers).
can you elaborate on this? I have a semi I want to be fully erect

I don't think so.

We probably needed another non guaranteed contract on the roster to involve in the Asik trade, so that the numbers work out and Houston can waive every player contract that we send to them. Previously we would have had to stretch/trade Rivers to make it work out.

ETA: Babbitt+Gee+Ely looks to be around the 5.5mil that the Pels needed to send back in the Asik trade.

McNamara had written about how Demps wanted someone to do a sign-and-trade for a current Pels free agent to send out at least $2.4 million and hopefully at least $3.2 million towards this year's cap to complete the Asik trade. Using Gee's contract must accomplish the same thing.

Gee for Ely/Babbitt works. We could take back $3,546,839 in salary via 150%+$100K. Could be Dell turning a $2.3M of unguaranteed into $3.25M of unguaranteed.

Saw that on PR. Maybe thats the deal?

If #Pelicans can get either Hopson or Dellavedova from the #Cavaliers too, that would do it. If it's Hopson, NOLA could even keep Babbitt.

Thank you! This isn't us trying to move Eric Gordon. Asik has value and they traded him to a division foe even though that might not matter because their acquisition of Bosh may put them in a different stratosphere.

If we get Gee and one of Hopson or Dellavedova from Houston, we can trade the unguaranteed contracts of Babbitt, Gee, Ely, and Hopson/Della to Houston and the Asik trade would work.

That would be some serious manuevering from Dell. Even Danman would have to give him some credit.
