Zach Lee will always be the worst IMO. The kid was set to he the starting QB already practicing with the football team. And then you see how good of a pitcher he is in the minors. He could have had national prominence

No, not really. he was never outspoken about being at LSU and kept quiet. Hell he wanted even more money than Mac, and he still said less about the situation

Mac made an "official" announcement via twitter and has given us every reason to believe he'd be at LSU. I don't have twitter, but I did see his comment about turning the astros down

And wow, the 'Stos can throw 2.5 at him? I was thinking 1.5 at the most.

eta: I wouldn't exactly blame him for taking 2.5, just wish (assuming he did actually sign) it was handled differently. I still don't understand why these kids don't flock to LSU. Tons of poon, tradition, and get to be groomed in what's pretty much a minor league park.

No way the Stro's have the money to pay him. Look below the people they have already signed.

Zach Lee set a record for the highest signing bonus in Dodgers history at $5.25 mil which was nearly THREE MILLION more than the prior record of $2.3 million.

His asking price was completely unreasonable and they still matched it.

That's as devastating as it gets.

The twitter world we live in right now in 2014 is completely different than the years preceding it, even in 2010.

It doesn't matter how many they sign. It matters at what price they signed at.

I get that, it was probably the most devastating loss that we had already penciled in. However, if marshall were to sign, he handled the situation much worse. My reasoning for thinking he sticks is that he had to have known this was still a possibility and was still leaning towards LSU. I get using LSU as leverage, but it's not cool fricking with the largest college baseball fan base in the country

I understand, and it's why I don't even have a twitter. it doesn't mean he should have said that if he knew he could still leave. it's why I still think he'll end up at LSU. I know that sounds naive, but honestly it's just a hunch

From the Astros perspective, what's the better option:

1) Aiken for 6 mil

2) Aiken for 4.5 mil + Mac for 2.5 mil

3) Next year's 2nd overall pic + Nix

I don't blame them for going for number 2.

The Astros are most likely going to sign Aiken. It makes zero sense for him to not take the 5 million the Astros are offering him. That is top 3 money he would be leaving on the table.

I thought Nix already signed? If so they wouldn't lose him if Aiken doesn't sign but it would throw them over budget.

And I understand everyone being frustrated about Marshall but he would be foolish not to seriously consider what could be coming his way. Things have changed since he made his earlier comments. If this issue with Aiken's elbow hadn't surfaced he would have signed for the previously reported amount and the Astros wouldn't have been able to pay Marshall what it would take to get him.
