Dogs age 7 times faster than humans. Multiply 1 year by 7.

And that's not even remotely true - the first year is about 12 years, but many dogs live to 13, 14, 15 - a much greater percentage than humans live to 90s, etc, so, it's probably roughly accurate for dogs 3 to 9 years old, but I would only add about 3 to 5, depending on the dog, above 9 or 10.

Yeah, it is more of an approximation than an exact science.

It's like a sliding scale. There's milestones that adjust the year ratio. Things like adolescence and sexual maturity. After sexual maturity, the cellular aging is more consistent.

This is just something stupid parents tell their kids to make them feel like sparky had a rich and fulfilling life, plain and simple.

No one with any sense uses dog years. Dogs just don't live as long. 12 - 15 year old dog = old arse dog

It's all relative to the expected life span of the breed

Does everything that is not human have "blahblah-years"?

"My pet rat is 342 years old. It's 3 in human years."

Monkey-years?

Tortoise years? Those might be longer than human years.
