Why are you bringing up guys who are nowhere near the GOAT conversation?
The formula is for determing the GOAT, not whether random Player A is better than random Player B.

Goldennugget prefers a highly nuanced approach.

Not seeing the distinction. We're comparing an A and a B.
Whether A and B are ramen noodles and del pino's ravioli or Chateaubriand and Lobster Tail, the question remains delectability.

Also, as a cautionary note, please do not go purchase Del Pino's Ravioli in an attempt to answer that question. I wouldn't wish that on the taste buds of my worst enemy.

We're comparing A and B, in the context of players within the GOAT conversation. Nothing else.
Try to keep up, Kid. And stop bringing up irrelevant shite like Michael Chang, and food, and pussy, and any other of your terrible, banal analogies. TIA.

Dude. Was this really needed? You really act like a punk when people don't go along with with you. I think its time to grow up.
Imo. Djoker is not even in the discussion about GOAT. Not yet anyway.

Mentally he’s turned the corner. He’s so much more positive. To win two majors this year and to lose only one match, it’s one of the best achievements in all of sports not just tennis. It’s incredible.
Which he hasn't. Its gotten better but its still the worst part of his game. He had to get on the hottest streak in tennis history for his fragile mental state to stay in place.

I'm aware. Which is why its pointless to have it up there. The opinions will be incredibly skewed.

Well that escalated quickly.

The only thing banal around these parts are your platitudes.

Actually it was. That had nothing to do with my initial post or argument, and everything to do with this massive vessel of douche brgtiger chasing me around the site for months.
Brgtiger: get a girlfriend, dude. I'm not gonna give you a reach around.

As noted, it was from 2011.
After observing Djoker through 2011, and then observing him the last 18 months, I think his issue was mental the whole time, and will remain his ongoing battle. I'm not naive about the use of PEDs in sports, but I no longer subscribe to the "Djokovic was just taking EPO" theory. I really think his successes and failures are largely a function of his mental state. Stated differently: Djokovic is a bit of diva.
As Wilander and Sampras both emphatically agreed, the dude has no holes in his game. And I'm a fan of Nadal, but will be the first to admit that when Djoker is at his very best, there's nothing Nadal can do.
Wilander, Sampras, and myself aren't the only ones who think Djokovic is a really special player.
quote:
I lean times quite far from the window and say that Djokovic is the most complete player of all time. Strength, speed, technique – no one has ever had such a package like Djokovic.*
“When you look at match players in the history of tennis, I don’t believe that anybody can equal everything on the court that Djokovic does. I don’t think you can find a weakness in his game. His movement, personality, his return of serve, his serve, excellent touch, not hesitant in coming to the net, great serve. Over all, almost every player has a downfall; to me he doesn’t have one. He’s perhaps the best put-together player that I’ve seen over 60 years.”

how so? Please elaborate.

In the category of "being the best on his best days" I challenge anyone to come up with a reason why it isn't Marat Safin. When his head wasn't all the way up his arse like it normally was he would crack winners from literally anywhere on the court off both wings with no warning off of pretty much any kind of ball. He just obliterated people. No one stood a chance against him on his best days.
I realize that was a bit hyperbolic but Safin sticks in my mind as the best example in modern tennis of "if only he hadn't been such a loon"

i think you have to look at highest level over some period of time. You point to Djokovic's 2001 season which was ridiculous.
But look back at Federer's prime. There is a point where he reached a grand slam final 18 out of 19 grand slams, winning 12, being the finalist 6 other times, and losing in the semis once. That is a ridiculously high level.
I think that sustained excellence makes him the GOAT. Nadal is too inconsistent on other surfaces. If I had to bet my life on one player ever to win a match it would be:
Nadal on clay in prime
Sampras on grass in prime
If I couldn't pick the surface I am rolling the dice with Fed in his prime as he seems to be the best all around player on all surfaces.
