Except for the fact that all these wonderful things about California would never have to come to pass had California not become part of the Union.

Let's trade California for the Baja Peninsula. Even up. No Mexicans allowed in the Baja. No Americans allowed in Calif. Wait 50 years and see how it turns out.

The pluses of California don't outweigh the minuses.

Yep, went Republican in 9 out of 10 presidential elections from 1952 through 1988.

Only Goldwater couldn't win in CA during that time period.

The state was very conservative republican up until the 80s. Great business climate. Then the impoverished mestizos starting hopping the border, leading to an electorate that is only 40% white. These cretins have increased the power of the state government, increased welfare usage, and have driven hard workers and businesses out of the state.

What about Apple and Hewlet Packard? Did google leave the state? California is the home of silicon valley which has been the most important engine of growth of our countries' economy.

California is also home to a lot of defense industries and military bases. I'm pretty sure the Navy and Marines have no desire to leave San Diego.
