4 Questions about each team in the NFC South.

These questions are answered by the blog writers, who may have also come up with the question. They tend to be a bit homerish. Anyway, the logic behind the answer to Carolina's question is really flawed.

The "logic" seems to be that the offense was bad last year, so losing a bunch of their players doesn't really matter. That doesn't mean they'll be better. Whatever.

They added another receiving tight end, Ed Dickson, in free agency with the plan to run more two-tight end sets like they did in 2011, when quarterback Cam Newton set a rookie passing record with 4,051 yards. They added two experienced possession receivers in Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant and drafted a potentially dynamic receiver, Florida State's Kelvin Benjamin, with the No. 28 pick. At 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Benjamin will be an important weapon for Newton in the red zone.
As for the line, the Panthers had a patchwork group of guards after losing three to season-ending injuries, including both starters. They still averaged 126.6 rushing yards per game. All of the injured players are back, which should be an upgrade.
Then there's Newton. He made huge strides between his second and third seasons. He did this playing on an ankle that has given him trouble since his senior season at Auburn. Offseason surgery should fix that, meaning one of the league's top running quarterbacks should be better than ever.

I see whatthis article is talkimg about. Compare it to the Saints Defence. We had a terrible defence in 2012. We have ALOT of new players. This is the same as Carolinas offense. Everyone is new and they cant be much worse than they were with the players that they lost
I dont think they will be any good tho. And there defense is overrated

To be fair, this is what happened to our defense, addition by subtraction and we went from worst in NFL history to top 5.
the author may have a point considering Steve Smith is past his prime and LaFell and Ginn are not even WR2 worthy.

We really didn't change a whole lot of personnel last year. Ellis wasn't retained. Smith was injured in preseason.
We brought in Butler, but he didn't play a snap. Lewis and Vacarro were the real key.
And our personnel wasn't the biggest factor for our defense's performance in 12, but it was how our personnel was used (for things they weren't good at) and a confusing, convoluted system where responsibilities weren't clear.
So you saw a real turnaround when Ryan came in because he built his defense around what the players he had were good at.
Carolina isn't changing systems. I don't see that type of improvement.

Honestly we don't have a true wr1 and haven't really had one since Joe Horn. Colston is really a 2 playing a 1 and benefits from playing with a hof QB. Not taking anything from Colston but its the truth

That's just not true. That front 7 may be the best in the league.

Its not the truth at all.
He has had 70+ catches 7 of 8 years and 1000+ yards 6 of 8 years (had 943 last year). Steve Smith, who no one will argue is a #1, has the same stats in 5 out of those same 8 years.

You know, I typed a paragraph of a point of argument then actually changed my mind because I guess he really is a good 1 when I think about it. Just not an elite 1. But there is really only a few of those in the whole league.

Yeah that Newton guy has definitely been drinking the kool aid. He went from wondering wtf like everyone else to completely buying in to all of Gettleman and Rivera's bs.
Saying Smith was no longer a number 1 receiver (he still has the talent for it), using skewed stats about Ginn and Underwood to claim Underwood will be better, and already declaring Benjamin will make people forget about Smith.
And on D he said the patchwork thing worked last year so why not this year. And oh yeah that Oline will be fine without a legit LT(worked great for us with Charlie Brown right?).

Benjamin runs like 2 routes. He's got some learning to do, and WR is one of the positions where it's hard for a rookie to contribute.

that was about the only good point he made in my opinion. Even still... you lose your starting left tackle to retirement.
someone also needs to clue this fella in that no team has ever repeated as division champion in the NFC South.
