Given his measurables, I'd be shocked if Bridge gets more than 15 minutes a game at SF. Even though he hasn't shown he can shoot the jumper effectively, I'd prefer TQ at SF over Bridge. I'm hoping Bridge can be a poor man's Charles Barkley but that's asking a lot. Looking at this roster, Martin is going to need to play a lot at the SF position (unless Hornsby and TQ can shoulder the load) and we can't have any injuries/suspensions to any of our guards.

Will Epps be available? I know he was injured but I'm hoping he can provide depth on the front line so we can be quick and athletic without sacrificing much height.

One thing is for sure...we'll find out how important Hickey was to this team. Or, will we find out what a hindrance he was???

Just saying...maybe his off the court bs was more than it seemed. But, he was a baller that seemed to have the leadership potential. Oh well, woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Geaux young guns!

Bridgewater is an all or nothing player IMO. If he is capable, the Jones is the type of coach that seems to like to play his players into shape.

I would like to see what Epps can do, as he could be the SF we are lacking. My main worry is that Jones will play Mickey and Martin darn near 40 minutes a game which will wear them out pretty quickly. The only relief will be that Hickey is no longer at the point pushing the pace as much.

I don't think Epps is skilled enough on the perimeter to play the 3. He certainly isn't as skilled as a guy like Martin. Best case scenario is that Epps becomes a Tyrus Thomas type of player at the 4 (excellent shot blocker/rebounder)

That may not be a good thing. LSU wasn't very efficient in the half-court which 90% consisted of dumping the ball to JOBIII at all cost. Hopefully this will be where Musselman makes the biggest impact

could do worse for depth than bridge. could be serviceable down the line if he stays in the program and develops.

the keys next year are hornsby and gray. i believe martin is going to take a major leap, and mickey will be a better all around player, particularly on offense.

as a team, we just need to iron out these fundamental and defensive mechanical issues. play with an attitude and display the hustle it's going to take to win enough games ot get where we want to be.

What's everyone's guess on minutes per position?
1. Gray 20 / Quarterman 15 / Patterson 5
2. Hornsby 25 / Gray 15 / Patterson ~0
3. Martin 25 / Bridgewater 10 / Hornsby 5
4. Mickey 25 / Epps 10 / Martin 5
5. Robinson 20 / Mickey 5 / Malone 5 / Epps 5 / Odo 5

I like this prediction from a lineup standpoint, but I am hoping Malone is going to be more of a player this year and get more than 5 minutes per game.

I hope he is! Darcy is one of, if not my favorite player. Him and Hornsby are definitely my favorites.

Gray and Hornsby are both up-tempo style guards and Quarterman is capable of pushing the tempo as well. The real key is spelling the big guys for at least ten minutes a game which means the two big freshmen, Malone, Odo and Bridgewater must provide serviceable minutes. If the five of them can combine for 40 minutes a game, Martin and Mickey can carry the mail with the guards. Gray and Hornsby both capable of going for 20+ any given night.

Darcy

I always enjoyed him on the court, but he was just a step behind last year especially on defense.

Hornsby

Haven't gotten to see him, but what I've heard here and from others is this guy can shoot. Will be nice to have someone over 6 foot tall who can shoot.

Yeah, the adjustment period for international guys can be a bitch. Especially with a guy who we knew was raw in Malone.

He has great natural athleticism for a guy his size (and can shoot) and I think once he gets used to the speed of the game, he can be a solid contributor for us. As much as I hate to say it, I don't know if I can say the same for Odo. I don't think he'll be anything but a body to get a minute or two in a pinch.

Thanks for the comparison. Outside of Bridge, every guy moved in the right direction.

I'm glad Shortess slimmed down a bit. I see a lot of Ray Allen in the kid.

No way Epps averages 15 min, IMO. He, Odo, and Malone are all on the same level IMO

Yea I think 15 is high for Epps also. I just don't know what we are going to do at the 5 spot...

Depth, defense and foul trouble will be the keys. We have to play better defense than last year while not getting into foul trouble as we have no depth. Expectations may be way too high again.

It will be feast or famine. When our outside shots are falling and we are playing half way ok defense it will be feast. Otherwise, could be some tough games on the horizon.

And I agree that CJJ will have to give Odo more minutes and rest our big two some. Elbert and Epps are not proven players and I will believe they can do it when I see them play for awhile.

No one thinks Malone may get some minutes at the 4 because of his offense? Would be nice having 2 7 footers on the court at the same time.

I'm a little worried on how fast Elbert can pick up the speed of the game. We will need someone to pick up the slack at 5. Whether that's Darcy, Elbert, or Mickey/Epps is still unknown.

I just can't see us moving Martin and Mickey down a spot cause our depth issues at guard. We really can't have our 1s and 2s splitting out time at 3 with the lack of guys at those spots.

Twin tower lineup would be awesome. My only issue with having Malone at 4 is his defense. He would fit well there for offense, but defensively he could probably get abused if he has to move away from the paint.

I'm with you on this, Martin and Mickey will possibly move to the 4 & 5 in "closing" type situations, but I don't see it happening in extended portions through the game.
