I think our DT position is the question mark. Look at last season, Johnson wasn't very good. No one beat him out for the starting position. I also think our DE will be a very talent group. Our linebacker Corp will surprise some people.

I was surprised to learn, for example, that Wisconsin's athletic budget is about $25 million more per annum than LSU's. Looks like you guys sponsor more sports at the varsity level. Many LSU fan like myself would like to see LSU add some more sports, so I'm frankly jealous. IMHO only having 8 men's teams and 11 women's teams is too little for an athletic program as profitable as ours.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised to see Wisconsin's total revenue and expenses both rank second behind Texas.

Wisconsin has 11 men's varsity sports and 12 women's varsity sports. Of course, it helps that Madison is situated on an isthmus between two relatively large lakes. Gives the university the opportunity to have rowing teams. Hockey (men's and women's) is also a very popular sport up in these parts. The winter season certainly helps that flourish. One thing a lot of Wisconsin fans wished we had was a baseball team. As it stands, we are the only B1G school without a program.

Exactly the link I was referring to. If you look at that, your revenue was $149,141,405, your expenses were $146,659,187, and your subsidy was $7,859,675.

LSU, on the other hand had revenue of $117,457,398, expenses of $105,312,018, and no subsidy.

So Wisconsin cleared 10,341,893 with subsidy vs LSU clearing 12,145,380 without one. That difference is explained by the fact that Wisconsin supports more teams than LSU does. This year will feature an expanded Tiger Stadium seating over 100,000 for the first time. Most of the additional seating being added is premium seating. I expect our revenue will increase as a result. We could easily support more teams.

What a difference location makes. LSU baseball is our second-most profitable sport. We've led the nation in attendance for 15 years in a row. We're also the only college baseball team to exceed 400,000 tickets sold in a season. We've done it twice now.

To put that in perspective, only two college basketball programs have exceeded 400,000 attendance in a season...Syracuse and Louisville.

As far as sports being added at LSU, we added sand volleyball this year. We should be building a new facility for them in the fall, probably by renovating the old tennis center after the new facility is built. Our new Indoor Tennis Facility will be tied for the largest in SEC, and it's being built as we speak.

LSU currently has club sports in women's equestrian and men's soccer. We could add both sports as varsity programs without needing to build facilities. The men could share the new stadium built for the women's team. And the equestrian team could continue to use the state park facility two miles from campus.

LSU has long wanted to build a marina on University Lake. But plans are underway to dredge and reshape the lakes around the campus, so it's not a good time to do that.

Yeah Hunter and Rasco will be absolute forces. And I thought Thomas played as well as anyone at DT last year. Some forget he was a sde coming off an injury out if high school, he keeps getting bigger and more explosive, I have a good feeling here. Lacoutre was a big surprise that keeps getting bigger. The backup dts are inexperienced, but there are a lot of young high school all Americans , odds are in Haleys favor to make it work. More talent and experience at lber than ever and that with 2 lock down corners is the key. Gonna be a fun fast year on defense

I have a work friend that played for Wisconsin a few years ago and was a 4 year letterman.

He still keeps in touch with the team and coaches and this is what he told me:

-Melvin Gordon is probably the best RB in the country
-Their OL is huge and experienced
-They lost 7 starting seniors on the defensive front 7, and while there is some experience there, they have no depth
-Their QB can't throw the ball worth a shite and they lost their only good WR so he thinks they'll install option/read-option with the new dual threat guy with some long balls sprinkled in.

They will run on us. And they will run a lot on us. However, we can run on them just as well and I have a lot more faith in our passing game and our defense.

Melvin Gordon will be the highest picked RB in the NFL draft. Dude is fast like Jamal Charles and has great vision and balance. I think he averaged like 11 YPC last year. That's absurd.

We win because they are one dimensional and Cam will have us throwing with a little success and our defense has a ton more experience and speed.

But it will be close going into the 4th.

"I can say this with a modicum of certainty, LSU is being under sold at DLine. Rasco and Hunter will be a big force that will have to be accounted for. If they get doubled then all we need is gap responsibilities to be fulfilled so our linebackers can get penetration to stop the rushing."

He would have probably been the first back off the board in the 2014 Draft, too.

Though a likely long shot, Wisconsin's schedule sets up nicely for them to make a run at one of the playoff spots. With the exception of LSU, Wisconsin will be favored in each game. Couple that with Gordon's desire to make a run for the Heisman, and I think those are the main reasons for his return.

Anyway, he averaged 7.8 YPC last season and 10.0 YPC as a FR(RS). 11.0 YPC would have been absurd, but he wasn't very close to that number last season.

With his "home run" ability, he has drawn some comparisons to Jamaal Charles. Gordon has excellent acceleration, though I am not sure he has the end-to-end speed of a Jamaal Charles. He is a long-strider, which makes it awfully difficult for defenses to keep up.

LSU will also pay special attention to Corey Clement. Very talented true sophomore. I say "special attention" because of how productive Wisconsin's backup RBs typically have been.
- 2013: Melvin Gordon (1,609 yards, 12 TDs) and Corey Clement (547 yards, 7 TDs)
- 2012: James White (806 yards, 12 TDs) and Melvin Gordon (621 yards, 3 TDs)
- 2011: James White (713 yards, 6 TDs)
- 2010: James White (1,052 yards, 14 TDs) and Montee Ball (996 yards, 18 TDs)

Wisconsin had a very successful BCS era as they compiled the 12th best record nationally (146-61, .705%), but still trying to cement themselves in the upper-echelon of the country. Elite recruits are not knocking down the doors, though Gary Andersen is attempting to change that.

Quite obvious that LSU is much more talented and despite the experience of a Joel Stave, he still struggled for stretches last season. That was with a very good receiver and tight end who are now in the NFL. He does not have that this season. Against an opponent like LSU, not being able to stretch the field and solely rely on the run is not a recipe for success. I'm hopeful, but not confident.

LSU running the ball vs us could be scary. I will not be surprised if the the frosh back has more yards than Gordon. I would not be surprised to see LSU run away with this game. You guys might have a big party in there. Wisconsin is a big question mark this year- if this was last year's team I would feel much different.

On the flip side- its easier to project LSU stopping the UW run game since you are reloading with high rated players.

Wisconsin did play Scar tough in the bowl until losing Stave. That was a poor match up for us with their stud QB. It doesn't appear either LSU QB poses the same threat? We ran a ton at them and many UW fans feel that play calling cost us momentum in that game. Wisconsin also played a tough roadie out at Arizona St last fall and that experience may help too.

Love this series. Maybe Gary Andersen can surprise us with something special in his 2nd year at the helm and put his stamp on the program with an opening win. I wouldn't bet on it- but I am looking forward to the game anyways!

Do we know who is wearing home unis? I prefer UW in the reds and LSU in the whites.

My sources say the UW band isn't going- totally lame IMO.

So, that guy Doug thinks Wisconsin will beat LSU in Houston, but lose to Maryland in Camp Randall following a bye week?

LSU with yellow helmets? I feel like those white helmets would look pretty awesome with the white uniforms, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm going to assume Wisconsin goes red helmets.

The all-white LSU uniform is the greatest uni in all of football. Too bad they have only been worn on a couple of occasions.

We don't play around with our uniforms. We have very rarely in the last decade and the biggest change was for charity for Katrina. Very proud of our tradition of white jerseys, gold pants, and gold helmets. We were this combination at home and away except for usually 1 home game a year in purple jerseys.

This a joke? Its never happened.

ETA:

I was wrong, happened once with altered uniforms against Auburn I guess
