Right, two years. But his last year is better known as Eric Gordon's expiring contract.
Large expiring contracts have been largely devalued and have been extremely hard to move under this CBA.

I had forgot Martin had a new deal. I was under the assumption he was making close to what Gordon was.
Im with that

And that's what makes it not completely unrealistic. KMart is older and potentially on contract 2 years longer than Gordon. He also was brought in and given that deal, which seemed long at the time, because he was an Adelman guy, and Adelman isn't there anymore. The same could be said of Chase Budinger, who hasn't played over 58 games in the last 3 years, has never averaged more than 22 minutes, has never had an average PER, and is basically on an MLE contract with 2 more years left.
Honestly I'm not sure it's a good trade which probably means it's a fair trade. For it to work out for the Pels, Martin would need to be a good scoring 6th man until his contract expires, which I actually can see happening, and Buddinger would need to become the 3 and D SF we've been looking for, because between all the money at guard and big, there isn't much left for SF and Buddinger would be eating up $5 million of that. That's the part I'm most unsure of, although the potential is there if he's healthy.

The Pels would still have the MLE to offer another SF in this scenario, right? (I'm assuming this deal would be done in conjunction with the Asik deal.)

What would Minnesota say to Martin/Brewer for Gordon/Rivers? Frick off?

Yes. The total team salary after turning Gordon into Asik/KMart/Buddinger would still be a few million under the cap, so adding the MLE wouldn't be unreasonable as long as AD is on his rookie deal.

The rumor this is all based on is an offer from Minnesota. Kevin Martin is an older player on a long term deal that the previous regime wanted. New regimes ALWAYS turnover the roster and try and get their guys in, they usually don't want the last guys Teacher's Pets hanging around. I think a Kevin Martin package for Eric Gordon is a fair trade, they don't need Rivers too.

This looks like a no-brainer right?
You finally get rid of EG and get a similar player in return (presumably with a better attitude)
You still have the assets for the Asik deal
You don't give up Ryno
And we have the MLE for a 3?

I wish the trade machine wouldn't have Asik on our roster so we could check possibilities of 3-way trades.

The RealGM trade checker doesn't have him on our roster yet.

I did the math and turning this into a Houston 3way works.
From the Pelicans side of things, they are sending out $14.9 with Gordon, so the rule that applies is taking back $5 million over, not 150%, meaning they can take back $19.9.
Asik $8.4
KMart $6.7
Buddinger $5
That's $20.1 million, only $200k difference. So if replacing the rounding/estimated figures we're using with the real figures doesn't solve the problem, throwing Ely's voidable contract in would.
From the Twolves perspective they also have to adhere to the $5 million rule rather than 150% because they are sending out $11.7 million, but Gordon's $14.9 is within the $5 million cushion.

I mean, that 3 way deal is pretty much the best we could ever hope for in dumping Gordon, getting Asik, and keeping Ryno
Which is why something tells me I just need not go there in my mind as it won't happen
