I know, I will have trouble using all 3 weeks, but I want to take a 2 week vacation each year. In the future.

You need that first week to decompress and the second to relax.

And its not hard to figure out how to swing a day here and there 5 times. Are you going to take 4, full weeks, at various times?

my work pretty much won't let you take a vacation. I mean, they will, but they ask you not take more than a couple of days at a time. I had to agree not to take any vacation over a day for 18 months to get 15 days consecutively last year. even then, i pratically got fired when I returned.

I complained to my boss about losing vacation time (only can accrue so much), his suggestion was to take every other Monday off. I laughed at this.

I'm basically in this situation. It's really annoying (humble brag blah blah). Seriously though, I'm capped with vacation and accrue it monthly. If I don't want to lose time, I have to take off at least 2 days per month.

I've been taking a couple Fridays off every month, but it's aggravating when I'm busy.

yeah, that has been my life for the last 5 or 6 years. i haven't caught up to my 120 hr binge last year but its getting close.

I am hoping to take a half a comp day on friday, I think its going to be a stretch.

I went from 28 days to 18 days about a month ago. I certainly used that info in my counter offer.

I couldn't work at a job that didn't allow me to use vacation how I wanted. I like to take two week long vacations a year, helps recharge the batteries.

I had the same situation a few years ago - the hiring Exec VP said there was nothing he could do about it. At my final interview the President walked in and asked how things were and if there was anything he could do . I mentioned the vacation discrepancy and he immediately said. We cannot change the policy but if you need an extra day off every now and then just let me know- it is not a problem- He basically gave me the extra 5 days vacation off the books.

its pretty standard in my industry. if I were to quit b.c of it, and get a new job, it would be the same thing with the other firm.

Honestly... I dont even know how I could manage to be away from the office for 4 weeks throughout the year--especially at that salary level. I just have too many key responsibilities.

i am too far down my career path for that at this point. And i get so many perks that most industries don't offer that its too hard to give those up.

for instance, I can work anywhere in the world for almost any amount of time. we are going to try honduras (well that is my plan, my wife wants to go back to new orleans for a montH) for a few weeks in the winter.

Real common in my department (a lot of international employees) who save up/accrue vacation days over the year so that come Christmas/New Years, they can combine company holidays + vacation days for extended breaks.

One year on a late thanksgiving, a guy took Thanksgiving through the entire month off of December + vacation days that started in the New Year (January) and didn't show up to work for almost 2 months

He was in the process of switching departmental teams and being added to a new project so it wasn't like he missed anything/didn't do any work

Does your dad work in government? One of the guy's I have hunted with will take huge blocks of time off between November - January for deer season. It is almost worth all of the crappy people they deal with throughout the year.
