I really think this season maybe the defining season for les. a 9-4 season and he becomes average according to national media. If he goes 11-2 with a young but talented team he re-establishes himself as a top coaches.

see i disagree with this. Les has turned a couple of teams here that were probably 8-9 win teams into 10-11 win teams and he doesn't get credit for it. just negged that he didn't win 14.

I like these guys but they are gator homers after all. Just discussing who they would take off that nfl.com list if Will Muschamp gets fired

I don't see him clearly surpassing what he inherited. He received one of the top programs in the country. He get credit for maintaining. As for him having no control over what he inherited, that is true. But he still can't get credit in that area when compared to other coaches who did.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The program is stronger. Better recruiting classes, more NFL draft picks against tougher schedules. 4 str8 10 win seasons speaks for itself.
We can debate it but clearly he maintained it. No one can doubt that.
I never gave him credit for building the LSU program. I gave him credit for maintaining it in the SEC west. Which in my opinion, following a legend and then having to compete against him and the other SEC schools is the bigger accomplishment. 10 years and counting; not many can make this claim in the SEC west.
Instituting your system from scratch with a clean slate and total support from the AD, altho difficult in its own right, doesnt compare to what Miles had to deal with at LSU. And he is still standing and flourishing, unlike Urban Meyer, who somehow continues to make these lists. You couldnt get that guy back in the SEC with a crowbar and 10 million a year. And he coached in the east with a Heisman QB most of his tenure. But here's Miles plugging away in this pressure cooker and gets left off the list. Who could do better at LSU on this list? But not leave for the NFL, cheat on your wife with your asst coach's fiance or just flat quit on your team and contract.

TCU coach ahead of him.

Patterson may be the most overrated coach out there. Is he good? Sure. But, man give it a rest now.

So that means 9 other coaches who didn't even play in "that one" are better than him?

Well, it wasn't actually Miles who couldn't execute the assignments. The game was lost in the trenches.

I don't think that it's funny at all.

This writer mustn't have a clue about wht he is writing. Les' staff has proven themselves to be the best at developing players, getting them drafted and reloading after losing more players than every other program with only a couple of exceptions.

But hey, perception is what counts here. The Tigers lost the last few games against the gumps and the Ole Miss debacle also hurt Les.

It is ashame that les cant seem to stop redshirt soph and juniors from leaving to the NFL.It helps the so-called preception of NFLU but really hurts when your core seems to change every year now. What has helped bama and others is they have juniors that seem to come back instead of going to the pros while LSU seems to lose boat loads of talent yearly. I applaud collins for staying though wish more would because some do leave to early thinking the grass is greener.

The were discussing top 10 college coaches on talk radio today and said Les doesn't belong in the top 10.

Seriously, a couple truckers talking on Ch 7 doesn't constitute talk radio! :rotflmao:

If Miles wins those 2 NCs in 2011 and 2012 - HE is the best coach, not Saban...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nah, but he would move up to 16th in the poll.

Pretty sure it's not just one game.
Hell last year was two.
Alabama manhandled us.
3rd string ole miss team with Ronny bass at qb embarrassed us.
That's a fact regardless how much you hate to hear it.

what a joke. Patterson has been terrible since TCU started playing actual football teams.

Sumlin hasn't proven anything yet to me. He had the best qb arguably ever and still went 9-4 last season with a lucky win against Duke.

Jimbo is a hot name right now because they just won the chompionship, but people forget that he typically loses one bonehead game a year to a team like NC State. Curious how FSU will bounce back.

You'd think that Les is the only coach in the nation to ever lose a game to an inferior team.

Lots of mediocre teams/coaches lose games to inferior teams.

What's acceptable is the key.
