True. That was originally built as G.E.X. - Government Employees Exchange, the 1st members-only store I ever encountered.
Rat
I remember GEX vividly as I grew up down the street from Lynn Park Country Club and mom shopped at GEX
around 1973 ?? , we went shopping at GEX as I was 5, and little brother was 3. I was in a hurry to get out of the Town & Country station wagon with wood panel siding and pushed my brother face first out the car. Busted his lip, blood everywhere and we were off the EJGH for him to get stitches.
K&B was further up near Vets in the same shopping center. We also shopped at Security Sporting Goods in the late 70's early 80's
wasn't there a Canal Villere grocery store in the same shopping center ?? I forgot the stores name as I think it later changed to a Delchamps

I don't remember Roy Rogers. The only things I remember about Rax are the building and those alligator drinking cups.

The Roy Rogers was near where Gambino's is. I used to LOVE their Double R Bar Burger, a hamburger with ham and cheese.
I actually met Roy Rogers himself at a promotion they had at that restaurant.
There was also a restaurant near there owned by Johnny Carson called "Here's Johnny's".
The K&B near Power/David originally was across Veterans, where the Walgreens is now. This K&B actually had a lunch counter where we'd get our cherry cokes.
Next to/behind that was a Shoe Town - you could buy N.O. Jazz tickets there for $1.50. The tickets were in the nose bleed section of the Superdome.
As far as the Canal Villere, Blaze, if there was one there, it was only briefly there before it became a Delchamps.

Roy Rogers was EXACTLY where the Taco Bell is now- next to Popeye's on Vets between Transcontinental and Clearview.
Does anyone remember the Bonanza Steakhouse on Vets across the street from Clearview Mall? It's where the Copeland's Cheesesteak Bistro is now. And next to it was a SHOE TOWN.

Anybody here remember a place near the Shogun by Vets and Causeway called Wimpy's? It was in the space that became TCBY and is now a nail salon. They came out not long after Popeye's became well known and they had 3 items that were great.
With a name like Wimpy's you know they had hamburgers. Their Wimpy Burger was a large burger with some special sauce, lettuce but no tomato.
Also tying in to the Popeye's connection, they also had fried chicken that tasted just like Popeye's. Finally, they had some great New Orleans style hot tamales.
They weren't there that long, but I loved their food.

Do you recall about when it closed?
Was Shakey's Pizza and Takee Outee open at the same time as Wimpy's?

It was open in the mid 70s. My guess it was open only about 5 years or so, but I don't know the exact years.

Yup, when I moved to TX they had one near my office. We would do our meetings there on Fridays.

Steak and Ale and Super Popeyes are Chick Fil A and Panda Express now.

We used to go there all the time. I remember going there during Metairie parades. When the floats came, we got off the trampolines and ran across Vets to see the parades. If the parade stalled, we went back to the trampolines until we saw another float!
