And even if it was wholly his fault for mistakes he made, is it really necessary to call him out and ridicule him? Does that make you feel a little better about where you are with your 4WD pick up, Budweiser, and designer ice chest? Why would anyone take the time to kick an ex-Tiger when he's down....because the kicker is probably a half a generation from the same lifestyle and it hits a little too close to home...

if he is in his right mind, it is easy to see why he would want to live under a bridge. who doesnt love fresh air?

some people are just cant get right. drugs, alcohol, mental illness, whatever lead them to where they are is a "choice" in the loosest possible sense of the word. Nobody sets out to become an addict or an alcoholic or depressed or bipolar or whatever. But is a fast downhill ride to get there

Malcolm Scott used to be somebody and he still has pride in who he used to be. To think this dude is straight enough in the head to decide to be an addict and live under a bridge is dumb. I am always amazed at how reasonable people try to reason with unreasonable people. An addict's attitude and behavior dont make sense and it wont ever make sense.

When your life falls apart, you are living outside and you are lost in denial, things like waiting in line at a government office fall behind finding money for booze or drugs or food.

this this this

Look I get wanting to help a human being in need, but the "he's a tiger damnit!" so he's entitled to help over others type posts are just stupid. He's not a war vet or someone who selflessly devoted his time, he got a scholarship to play football, received a degree, and got a shot in the NFL.

Do these people on their high horse scream for action to be taken about all alumni who fall on hard times or just the ones you remember from football? Why don't you care about the other people named in that article who clearly need help? They didn't play football so tough shite?

good grief, can you read?

I said he should get the benefit of the doubt as a former Tiger and you're talking about condoning free passes....

is it really too much to ask that we as LSU fans assume the best instead of the worst about our own?

It's a very sad situation when a young man, through hard work and dedication, has set himself up with great deal of opportunity, and somehow loses it all. I don't know if it was by his hand or others, either way, it's still a damn shame and I can't imagine what is gained by anyone to have LSU people beat our own when they're down (unless it's Curly Hallman).

you really going to argue against my position that we, as LSU 'fans', should give LSU players the benefit of the doubt

that is if he wants help. that is not a safe assumption

We are trying to work on something now to help him.

I'm just throwing this out there .....but perhaps he doesn't want help?
What I mean by help is if you gave him a 100k bucks this time next year he'd be right back where he is now.
I'm not gonna feel extra sorry for this one just bc he played ball at LSU.

There's a reason dude is living in a van down by river underpass wherever , just like all the rest of them.

With that said, I hope hegets straightened out.

Malcolm actually moved me & my lady a few years ago and seemed pretty stable and had a good outlook on life. We talked about his time at LSU as he was really excited when I knew who he was. We talked about St Aug's player attitudes regarding LSU changing back then & he said going to LSU was one of the best decisions he made. So sorry to hear about him being homeless.

PS He carried some heavy damn furniture by himself and never broke or damaged anything. His helper was fairly small.

Any reason he couldn't get a job at McDonalds or Burger King? Would provide him a steady check and he could at least get a place to put his head at night...

Seriously? $9 an hour x 40 hours minus taxes/soc sec. = 800 a month...

I doubt he wants help. Maybe a handout would be more in order.

I think it's terrific that y'all are attempting to help him up. I'm sure part of y'all's plan includes dealing with the underlying cause of his current situation. Until that is identified and addressed, he'll probably remain in a downward spiral. Hopefully, he is willing to accept your assistance and gets himself right. Good luck!

TIGRLEE:
Do you actually think people wake up one morning and say, "This house and job are nice, but I think I'll go live in a tent under the Pontchartrain Expressway instead."? The vast majority of these people have something WRONG with them. Whether it's addiction and/or mental illness, they're unable to function in mainstream society. They aren't down there for the free ham sandwiches and pleasant atmosphere.

I gave this dude $5 3 years ago at the Shell station on Acadian Thwy, he told me he was an ex LSU player and I gave him money thinking he was probably full of shite. Good to know that he wasn't, sad that he's in this situation

All I can say is you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. I thought I was done with this thread, but I saw the bump and saw this comment, so I came back to point out how clueless you are.

$9 an hour x 40 hours a week = $360 a week
$360 a week x 4 weeks p/month = $1,440 p/month

You said take home would then be $800 p/month on a gross income of $1,440 p/month. That would imply that social security, medicare and federal/state income taxes on an individual grossing $17,280 p/year would be 44.4%. Social Security and Medicare equal 7.65% for everyone. That means you think that that an individual grossing $17,280 p/year has a combined federal and state income tax rate of 36.75%.

At the income level he would be at, his federal tax rate would be somewhere around 10% and state would be even less than that. His take home pay would be somewhere around $1,100 p/month. I would think for someone that is currently living underneath an overpass $1,100 of disposable income per month would sound pretty awesome. And as I said in my post that you so ignorantly tried to correct, that should be able to get him a place to put his head at night.
