I would agree with this, but six does seem high.

I recall him having a bit of a rough start.

He was higher than 6 last season. Absolutely shut down last year. Gave up very little yards after the catch too

he's better than PP7 is right now

PP7 is overrated because of his return abilities.

Which is funny b/c he's been a terrible returner since his record setting rookie season

PP7 overrated? I beg to differ! He's definitely an upper echelon corner, his return abilities are just an added bonus.

He's currently overrated, but he's also only 23 years old. He'll be the best corner in the NFL in 2 years IMO, but he's outside of the top 5 right now, but the top 5 are all much older than he is outside of Haden (25).

QBs had over a 90 Passer Rating against him, which put him at 66th for corners playing over 50% of their snaps. He gave up 6 touchdowns and got targeted a lot for an elite corner. Despite 90 targets, he only had 3 interceptions and 6 passes defended. He also gave up 284 yac

Sherman had a Rating of 36 against him, and gave up 1 TD and had 8 interceptions with 5 PDs despite only getting targeted 57x. 81 yac

Lewis had a rating of 67 against him. He gave up 3 TDs, 4 ints, and 5 PDs with 68 targets. 112 yac.

They aren't giving him those responsibilities anymore b/c he hasn't produced and is too valuable. His rookie season was incredible, but since then:

2013: 6 yard average which is 23rd in the NFL (and behind Sproles) with 0 touchdowns with 5 fumbles

2012: 8 yards (22nd in NFL) with 0 TDs with 2 fumbles

I prefer PFF's ratings... but the list is solid.

Look, you drop in these things "Ah der something bout Pats" and it's so transparent. Revis is a hell of a football player, but he's not the top guy right now. He just isn't. Maybe he'll be after next year. I don't know. I'm not going to rate him #1 because he performed well while playing out of scheme.

Revis is still clearly the best pure corner in the league. Sherman is extremely, extremely overrated and bolstered by the fact his teammates, particularly the safeties, help him more than any other CB gets in the league.

Seattle was down two CBs and the two they plugged in did just as well when replacing their 2nd and 3rd CBs.

That's why stats are always to be taken with a grain of salt. Looking at individual stats often ignores the circumstances of how they were achieved.

That said, I'd put both Revis and Haden ahead of Sherman easily, and I think he and Peterson is an interesting debate.

i don't know if Sherman is the best but the guy has picked off 8 passes two years in a row.

and people weren't really giving props to their safeties until this past season. So I'm not buying that he's the one who benefits from them. It works both ways, I'm sure he makes the safeties jobs a little easier at times too.

I'm sure Haden is a good player but I kind of laugh when people talk about how good he is. Seriously, how often do people watch the Browns play? Let alone, just watch Haden individually?

frick, I've had Sunday Ticket for a few years now and even having that.. you still can only watch so much. Its not like I'm going to flip the channel over to CLE-BAL to watch him when I can watch the Seahawks play the 49ers instead if the Saints aren't on.

Glad they gave props to our boy Keenan Lewis though.

On only 57 targets too. That means he picked the ball off around 7 throws his way. He also only gave up 81 yac

You have to look at this as a whole body of work, not just last years stats TigerBait. 2012 he was 4th in interceptions with 7. He did have a down season in 13 I'll give you that, but in my opinion is he is at least a top 10 corner, and with his freakish genes could be one of the best corners in the league.

man, if only I had said something like that in the post you responded to:

He's been in the league for 3 years and part of being an elite corner is consistency. Looking at his entire body of work still puts him outside for the top 5

quote:

2012 he was 4th in interceptions with 7.

He gets targeted over 90x every season. He should have a large number of interceptions. That is the point. When he becomes an elite corner, the # of targets will drop b/c QBs will fear him. He's ahead of expectations at 23 years old

Tigerbait I appologize for not going back and reading every post of yours, thanks for the clarification. How about we just focus on the part the statement you made of PP being overrated, thats the part of your comment I'm having trouble understanding. Please elaborate.

You actually quoted that part in your previous post

He's rated at #4. He is not a top 5 corner right now. You said yourself that he is top 10.

So if he isn't in the top 5 but he's rated at #4, that means he is overrated.

quote:

Please elaborate.

I've supported my argument with countless stats. It is pretty simple. His production has not been elite.

Touché! Based on his 3 years of play being top 5 could be a tad overrated.
