Recruiting wasn't followed much at that time. I went to Boys State with Ike, and we were all enamored with the fact that Ivory was his brother and Dalton was his uncle. Never really thought to ask him about his college choice.

Maybe it's the beer, but I'm so confused by this thread. Which Hilliard are we talking about? If you're my age and you hear Hilliar you ssume Dalton........But he was like 1981 or 1982.

What happened was Steve Spurrier. He was the guru of football and had the top recruiting reputation at that time. He also worked hard at it. He totally mesmerized recruits, their families and HS coaches. He was much like Paul Dietzel in the 50s. If he got to talk with Mom and Pop he could get whoever he wished. He also had the best program in the country. The only school and coach in the south who could compete with him was FSU and Bowden.

what amazes me about the Hilliards is that Dalton the first one didn't seem to have any stroke with the other Hilliard unless he just didn't care !

ISAAC Hilliard. It was weird when I started seeing him on TV at UF and it was just Ike, which is what his friends called him.

I was at Boys State that year and in the same group as Ike. Really great guy.
There was also a LB from Patterson there with him. Can't remember his name, but he was a really good football player.
Kevin Mawae's little brother was also in our group. Funny dude.

If you went to Patterson in the early 90's you would know him, Mike was massive, you couldn't miss him. He was good enough to start games as a Freshman at LSU.

If I got my years right, he was a Senior when I was a freshman. Probably why I don't remember much.

I'm late to the party, but Ike really wanted to go to lsu. It was his dream to play with his older brother ivory. Ivory was four years ahead of him, so he never was able to play with him. With ivory red shirting, he knew he would have a year to play with him. I personally think ivory suggested he not come to lsu. They actually played against each other for a game. The deal was that Ike would slip down, or ivory run him out of bounds!!......btw Patterson lost to Newman in basketball that year also in the playoffs if I remember correctly. Some dude named Livingston?
