if you are young and broke and just want a 2 lb burrito then yes freebirds

Freebirds is no cheaper than Chipotle. I've been to both plenty of times and it costs about the same at both places. Maybe they charge you more at Chipotle than they charge me.

Houma has some decent "real mex" if you look around. Taqueria La Magnolia on Prospect (good tamales), Taqueria DF on Grand Caillou, Taqueria El Jalisco (where I had the surreal experience of eating a taco while watching a ranchera music video version of Hank William's "Jambalaya"). A little Spanish helps, but I've found people to be pretty friendly at all three.

There used to be a tortilleria near the Vietnamese grocery store on Prospect, it had tacos on the weekends only. Dunno if it's still open or not.

I don't know about that...to each their own, but their burrito bowl is more than enough food.

I'm with you. I get a few tacos or the burrito and It's more than I can eat.

I used to date a girl in Houma a while back. She used to drag me to La Casa when I visited, and I always hated it. I guess it was on par with the Cuco's of the world. The locals acted like it was better/more authentic then anything you could get in Mexico City.

Its Ok. Good if you don't have other Mexican type options. The place doesn't have hot peppers to put on your food though. A place named after a chili pepper doesn't have peppers.

La Casa is a Houma staple, no doubt about it.

inexplicably overrated. You have your choice of their bland chicken, soggy, salty pork, etc with two or three toppings to toss on it like corn and pico de gallo. Somehow this has endeared itself to people across the country. It's mediocre at best.

Have you seen some of the people eating at Chipotle? They don't care about natural

Yeah, I much prefer Moes or Qudobas, if I must eat at a burrito bar.

If you're going to have a limited menu, that stuff better be pretty damn good, and it's not. I hate that you have to buy the chips, and then they're way too salty.

You're right, they don't. But it's one of those buzzwords that people throw around. It doesn't even mean anything anymore. I've watched it happen -- a group of people are trying to decide what to grab for lunch and one inevitably throws up Chipotle because it's close and "organic." Everyone falls in line because obviously that's the place to go because Chipotle organic >>>>>>>> everything else.
