just do some scouting on Google Earth beforehand so you have a plan. Get ready to fish the grass in some spots. I can't stand it, but fish are there underneath it.

scouting on Google Earth
+1

the only problem is looking at the google earth images sometimes you can't tell what's what in the marsh, whether it's high tide or not can make or break a fishing hole.

what's the bottom like over there? black gumbo like over here in the west or sandier?

I've paddled literally 300 yrds from the marina and hit the ponds right across the canal and caught fish. You really can't miss it.

This!

We've had our company fishing rodeo out of Sweetwater the last few years right around this time if year(late may/early june). Several people have brought kayaks and caught quality fish in the ponds just on the other side of of the bayou that Sweetwater is on.

Unless conditions have changed, there really is no reason to paddle miles.

For those of you going in boats, I know a few spots inland to try around Four Horse Lake, Skippy Bay and Oak River. I've never fished the big bays to the east of Delacroix (black bay, bay eloi, gardere bay)

If I leave out of that marina and head north, how far will I have to go to get on some bass?

Not to far. People catch bass all the time in Delacroix. But I don't fresh water fish. So I couldn't tell you where to go at all.

So how is the fishing out there this time of year? Do you have to make the long run out to black bay and the outer islands?

Polar, have you ever checked the forum over at bckfc dot org?
Plenty of kayak specific information and people who know the area well.

Completely slipped my mind to check over there. I will give it a look for sure.

A few of us will be fishing friday afternoon and I was just wanting it to be as productive as possible.

Pop, what time are you planning to get there? Let me know and I can put a route map together that should put you on at least a few fish with little effort. I'd go with you, but probably won't make it till around 6:30 on Friday. I'll be working 30 minutes from there

Like DLauw said, find the cuts. Redfish will be in cuts that lead from shallow water to deeper water and on the sides of small marsh islands opposite the flow of the tide. If you head south from the Marina in he main channel, you can hit all those cuts from the shallow marsh. I find the east side to be more productive than the west, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try the west side. There will be lots of patches of small islands. Islands will be about as big as pickup trucks and will be 3 or 4 of them. Fish in between them.

Yeah you don't need to paddle far, I was just saying I'm going to go 3-4 miles on the 31st to find some new spots.

There's a lot of grass, but the water has to move out and you just have to find where it digs out the grass and makes a deeper cut. If I get in grass, I usually move on. There's fish there, but there is also plenty of opportunity to catch nice fish and not have to deal with the grass. Unless you just want to make it a mission to overcome that challenge which I sometimes do.

The place I'm going also had trout last trip if anyone wants to go catch some of them. I've never caught trout at my closer spots. Of course I'm not trying to sound like some Delacroix expert. I've just fished it a lot.

Only bad thing about a 3 mile paddle to fish, is the 3 mile paddle back after fishing all day. :jealous;
