re: Current Hard Rock/Metal

OP seems like he's just getting into this genre so I think the older bands are a good place to start. Its "beginner" metal. I don't think you can just jump right in with someone like Dying Fetus or Watain for example.

Wrong.

Orange Goblin and Spiritual Beggars certainly fit that bill.

Again, wrong. I'm talking about real metal. Not stoner sludge metal.

You're talking about power metal. No death or black metal bands are mentioned on page 1 of this thread.

Thank you

I'll check them out. I noticed after a certain point listening to a point, it's hard to find really good ones that don't sound repetitive. As far as OP goes, it sounds like he's leaning towards the metal with the harsher vocals. I could be wrong but I'm not very educated on that genre. Good luck with the others telling you about that specific genre.

I'd suggest you get into the whole Finland metal scene well. Or whatever Norwegian country

In Flames still pumps out tracks... that album is a classic that I throw on still

Had me until he started singing... I am kinda over that type of sound lyrically.

Good music otherwise

Any Progressive fans noticed that Canada is like the progressive metal capital of the world?

It's kinda obvious you really don't have a clue what you're talking about.

On the one hand, anybody that's remotely familiar with the bands mentioned knows they're not in any way black or death metal.

On the other hand, you must not consider Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Budgie, Montrose, Captain Beyond, Motorhead, or bunch more bands I can list, as 'the true basic hard rock and metal like existed in the 70's and 80's', because if you did, you'd know that both Orange Goblin and Spiritual Beggars wear their influences by great classic bands like that quite proudly. And neither one of them them is a 'sludge' band.

Brosef is right the first page is not full of death or black metal not even close.

I am a huge fan of Mastodon, The Sword, Baroness and Gojira.
