Vibrams are awesome. I thought they were hideous also. i tried them due to the fact that every shoe I wore while working out would make the arches of my feet hurt. Once I put them on I did not want to take them off. It is like having a glove on your foot. Very light and very comfortable. I'll wear them just about anywhere.

From my experience chacos are the best for these activities...I bought some specifically for fishing but they ended up being so comfortable that I wear em for just about anything during the summer.

i find that on long hikes, my unpadded vibrams are uncomfortable. but for anything involving water, vibrams are the best shoe on the market. for wade fishing, offshore fishing or canoeing, they are fantastic.

if you decide to start running in them, do yourself a huge favor and take it slow. don't run more than a quarter mile at first and make sure you work your way up very slowly. think of it like this: if you never ran before, how far would you try to run at a go? try that far in vibrams. then work up the same way you would if you were doing something like a couch to 5K.

I never thought to ask, but do they make them with a longer second toe?

I was cursed with "mortons toe" on both feet...

plantar fasciitis.
I suffered from this for YEARS after wearing combat boots for a couple decades.

I was almost incapacitated by it until a chiropractor "scanned" my feet on a pressure scanner and ordered some custom orthotic inserts for my shoes/boots.

The relief was instant. Pain was completely gone in a couple of weeks. I was then put on a regimen of calf stretches and my plantar fasciitis is completely remedied.

Don't frick around with plantar fasciitis like I did for so many years. Just see a qualified chiropractor and get it fixed. It's easy.

Well, plantar fasciitis is caused by inflamation of the fascia on the bottom of the foot. So, it makes sense to get better support, right? Well, that's the usual treatment. But, what really causes that inflammation? What if it's because we walk around in shoes all the time and the fascia grows so stiff and inflexible that any time we use it a lot, it gets inflamed? I'm going to try to get my feet healthy, strong, and flexible instead of just trying to treat the symptoms.

This will not end well for you. If you are looking to strengthen your foot, go online & google the exercise/stretches they recommend for PF. I've had this for a while & walking barefooted, in flip flops, or in shoes without good support will only make it worse.
