Move back to Idaho. Lots of wilderness and the less people around in that situation, the better.

I would think a lot of people, particularly on here, would know how to survive as the bulk of the posters on this board are pretty bright people who could come up with an intelligent game plan and perhaps already had experience......save for a few trolls.
Although I don't see a collapse in my lifetime (I'm 37) happening, I could easily see an anarchist society being formed but the gumbent would quell that rather quickly.
What would be your plan? I do think the South and NE would be ideal places to be if in fact that were to happen - access to the water/streams/ocean, abundant livestock and Texas already has experience defending our state....albeit unsuccessfully

Where where you, not? I rode by a line of cars on La. 10 and damn near from the Interstate to Greensburg (approx. 7 mi.)...solid line of cars out of gas with a lot of people who'd shoot you for a twenty on a day when their belly was full.
If the Guard hadn't showed up with water, food and GUNS...you can damn well bet that those folk would not have respected the houses/families in that community.
It might not be this thread that is "stupid". I.e., ignorant.
CYA, buddy...if that is your gig.

There are several posters who get hard ons thinking about some kind of downfall of America.
Obviously.
Personally, my daydreams lean more towards titties or owning a sports franchise, stuff like that.
To each their own I guess.

I agree.

But, this seems silly. If the US "collapses," I can't envision how Europe would possibly be in a better position.

If it does, it would not be instantaneous (save for some type of EMP/Revolutions scenario.) What would most likely happen is an economic collapse with a slow destruction of the food market. When there is no food or water available for purchase, that is when I would start getting nervous and get out of the cities.

If anyone needs help getting out of the cities and into the boonies, let me know. I'll smuggle people past the federalis too.
For a small fee of course.

Yeah, I am in kind of the death by a thousand cuts camp that lack of cheap/available energy kills economic growth and eventually stops the trucks/food supply. The good news is we grow a lot of food in this country, but the bad news is that this system is so fossil fuel driven.
Eating Fossil Fuels.

as conditions worsen id make sure my jeep was full with gas and then maybe a few extra gallons stored away. once i loaded up id use the back roads until i hit the coast or the bayou. Then id steal a boat and sail along the coast. I would take the coast all the way to florida and then down to the keys and other islands. The reason id stay hugging the coast is so i can get supplies as needed at night.

My biggest concern would be getting caught on the wrong side of the River. I live on the East bank, but most of my resources are on the West bank. Crossing at a bridge could be a dicey endeavor.

A few months after the economic collapse a few interesting things took place. In the few ponds in parks where ducks used to be found, they quickly went missing. People soon realized how good they tasted and how easy it was to just grab them and go. Some of the more desperate people, they ended up eating dogs, cats, pigeons, even rats. The word got around that cat didn’t taste that bad and in a matter of weeks you just couldn’t find any more stray cats when just a few months earlier they were all over the city.
More HERE...
I can't recommend this guy's book enough.. It's EXCELLENT, because it's based on first hand experience of a total economic collapse. And it's NOT all hysterical.
You won't find advice like "Have 20 years of food" or "Have a cannon, machine gun, and 100,000 rounds of ammunition".

I'd rather take my chances on land specifically the country/woods. I'd think the coastline would be a total war zone and as soon as you left your boat to get supplies someone would steal it.

I'm in a great spot. One of the few where resources are still plentiful. Hard to get here, but plenty of food if you're here.

I already grow my own food, collect and filter my water, and produce a good chunk of my electricity. I will be just fine.

I'ld make my way back to the family farm (stopping to pick up as many supplies along the way as possible) then hold up until things improved.
Posted on 4/24/14 at 2:26 pm to NATidefan
I'm just going to kill people until I either get killed or run out of ammo.

I don't have a plan per se. I graduated right before the recession and have struggled because of the poor job market and economy, so saving and preparing has not been an option. I have a cross bow, guns, ammo, military experience and have hunted and fished all my life. My family would do ok and survive, but it would not be a fun time for anyone. I really doubt it ever happens though.
