I'm not saying it's going to or won't collapse, but every generation pretty much thinks it's going to collapse in their lifetimes.

Surviving is for fools. I'll be getting rich off of the collapse with my smuggling ring.

What's your long term plan in this regard?

At 64, this year... .

I did jump on the 'survival' wagon a few years back; for the sake of family. But I soon realized that I was by myself; and that the psychological character required for long term tolerance of extreme hardship and severe insecurity...just weren't there in them I hoped to 'save'. They most likely couldn't - nor even hold the desire - to survive in such a scenario as many in the world face on a daily basis.

I let it go. As my Faith/Belief system encompasses far beyond this mere few years and the particular evolutionary character aspect of them in my circle.

Infinite parallel universes - likely "many mansions" in Jesus speak - and an eternity of challenges, character-building *defeats* and victories all being part of the road to 'heaven'. That I know/believe this will likely be of little consolation to them that suffer without it...but that is out of the sphere of my own influence, and in theirs.

That said...I have much faith in the goodness of our people...once they get their heads out of their arses and a clarity of Vision is established. That coming Vision - brought on by the psychological effects that collapse - will be the catalyst for the clarity of Vision that will lay the ground work for what I suspect will be an evolutionary leap of unimaginable bounds.

I suspect that the greatest challenge to the next wave of humanity will not be based on bullets and survival food...but rather what VALUES become the very essence of our Perceptive Reality. We have a date with the Singularity - and as Quantum Physics bears witness - it will be our SUBJECTIVE belief that sets the table of our future Reality.

Our future is what we believe it to be; and to the degree that we believe.

My 2 cents. Good luck. Or God speed. Whichever fits your *world*.

I don't think a true SHTF or TEOTWAWKI will ever happen. I think we could see a 1930s version of the 'Depression' happen though.

Rather than any kind of economic collapse or local natural disaster, viral plagues and cosmic EMPs have the potential to do the most damage.

Hurricane Katrina & its aftermath gave us a little insight into what a major SHTF would look like. Large amounts of peeps in NOLA were on the verge of dieing of thirst and they did not have to sense to even catch a little rain water with a cup or coffee mug.

Katrina gave you a glimpse on how quickly things would deteriorate in a city without law enforcement or basic services. Imagine if something happened like an EMP attack, where there was no communication?

I'd want to be as far away as possible from any city.

Purchase the book, Encyclopedia of Country Living, by Carla Emery. It teaches you step by step how to do everything:

quote:

The essential resource for modern homesteading, growing and preserving foods, and raising chickens, The Encyclopedia of Country Living includes how to cultivate a garden, buy land, bake bread, raise farm animals, make sausage, can peaches, milk a goat, grow herbs, churn butter, build a chicken coop, catch a pig, cook on a wood stove, and much, much more. This comprehensive resource is the most authoritative guide available to a sustainable lifestyle and living off of the land.

Regardless if TEOTWAWKI happens, it is cool to know things like this and kind of ties in to the thread yesterday about things our parents did that we don't know how to do anymore.

Uh... uh....uh....

If we were to collapse, most of Europe will too. It's kind of a global economy. I would have figured that an astute Progressive like yourself would think about that.

Actually planted about 20 plum and peach trees yesterday and have been stocking our pond for a few years. If I need it, it will be there. If not, it will still be there to enjoy.

Move to family land in the boonies. Hopefully could get by on stored/hunted food until the crops take.

Lack of livestock is a problem that's hard to fix - not exactly easy to keep a buncha chickens, pigs and cows for a what-if scenario

Fuel is obviously a problem.

Water supply is redundant.

Security is pretty good but would need to mend some proverbial fences with some relatives I haven't seen in many years. They got some firepower so I'd need to ally with them or else take them out pretty quick. But I think they're friendly enough.

Ammo is okay but need to get into reloading. I keep meaning to but other shite including laziness keeps popping up.

If you mean, mabye 30 to 40 people, maybe you are correct.

This kind of threads are so stupid.

I will stalk bama fans for the little debbies, beef jerky, and ho ho's and other unperishables. The big crimson A's will be my grocery stores.

Actually, it is kind of arrogant to think the US could never fall. How many countries can you name that have not totally collapsed at some point?

Also, can you name another time in the history of man that people know less and less about growing crops? I mean come on, how many on this board would know how to take seeds from the crop for replanting the next season? How many of you know when to plant what?

I'm headed to the country where there is ample fish and wildlife. Somebody comes up, I shoot them and stick their bodies in salt to save just in case times were really rough.

I will stop by someplace that has heirloom seeds and rob them of anything worth eating.

Save rainwater to drink, or go back to the western days where people just went to a stream and got a freakin drink.
