He probably inhaled some water and was under distress after falling in the water in the first place. The bird coming after him just made it harder to recover. There was one on those birds at ccl #16, mean as hell and big. I could see it happening easily.

yea I mean, it sounds like he was completely taken by surprise.

quote:

Anthony Hensley was tending to the birds — used to keep geese away — from a kayak when one of the birds attacked.

Thrown into the water, he struggled to stay afloat as the swan continued to attack.

I could easily see a swan being able to drown a person if they were completely unprepared. One second you are taking care of the thing meant to drive the swans away and the next you are suddenly in the water with a big arse bird going after you hard. By the time he figured out what the hell was happening it could have been too late to get up to breath. It doesn't take all that much water to kill you.

...and why didn't he wear a life jacket? He should also have known that the birds are aggressive if they're used to keep away geese.

IMO people should be required to learn how to swim
Why do you think he didn't know how to swim? I dind't see that in the story.

If it were me in that lake, the swan would have been in a fight to the death with me
Looks like it was the same for him, he just lost. Not sure how you think it would be super easy to swim when an animal that big is attacking you.

He sorta looks like a dude that would get taken out by a swan.

She sorta looks like a woman I'd like to motor boat.

i can understand getting beat to shite by it but if you can swim its hard to grasp how you drown.
Seems logical to me as to how he could have drowned.

what's funny is , posters here will go toe to toe with a 250lb 1000 degree black belt and win. but, now seem to think they don't stand a chance against a swan....

Swim where? You have a 40 lbs. flapping bird with sharp nails on its feet clawing and biting you any time you try to surface.

They are relentless.

Sounds pretty bad, but it's not quite Jaws, is it.

That's what I was thinking, once you take in water and start choke, throw in this crazy swan biting you, i could also see it easily happening.
