I guess you mean in addition to Mardi Gras, JazzFest, the French Quarter, Voo Doo Fest?

It's better now than it's ever been since the the start of the 20th century.

New Orleans > Baton Rouge, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas

Depends on what you're looking for.

To live: Houston, ATL, Dallas > NOLA > BR

To be entertained: NOLA > BR, Houston, ATL, Dallas

I'm not surprised. NO has one of the largest growing economies in the US right now. And has been for a few years

And Edwin Edwards was the greatest governor ever.

New Orleans was on it's way to becoming the next American mecca in the 60s. It would be exponentially better today.

You mean the weekend when armed thugs were going to riot and burn the city down? I read it here several times.

People would be surprised how busy that and the WWE events were for the city.

Another big thing people don't think about with N.O. is that it has been the number #1 wedding destination city in the country for a few years now. For those that don't have insight into this industry, there are a shitload of reception facilities that are booked solid every weekend.

Pretty sure Vegas is running away with that one. We are up there though.

Pretty sure I've read a few articles that pimped N.O. as #1

Nope. Katrina changed the game. The city is full of young and vibrant people, who fricking love it here. Entire neighborhoods are undergoing gentrification and adding to the the tax rolls of the city. Property values are up and crime is down.

New Orleans would have had that potential pre-Katrina without Edwards.

Nope. The Whitney Bank/Boston Club crowd was never open to newcomers here. That mentality has finally changed. I for one am glad it has.

Yeah, that's who it was

I'm sure it had nothing to do with their inept government, rampant crime, and lack of non-tourism related jobs.

Do they consider anyone from out of state a tourist, or do I count as a tourist if I travl from Baton Rouge to a sporting event, Jazzfest or just to visit the quarter?

Exactly. Visitor and tourist are two different things. If I or anyone else in Louisiana drives over to New Orleans for business and stays the night I wouldn't consider that tourism.

They also arent counting people that own apts, condos and houses as second homes and come to the city several times a year, also some of rent their properties out as well

I'm talking about the 1950's when NOLA was bigger than Atlanta and Houston. It is exactly who it was. NOLA was so insulated.. my family was part of the problem then.

thats one of the great things about the city. you can come in on a Thursday, park you car or take a cab from the airport and never have to drive anywhere.
