So you're just assuming he's in it for some kind of malicious and/or manipulative reason? Got it. You don't seem biased at all.

as another poster previously pointed out the fans should've been concerned about the game in front of us because we had no idea by game 5 in the season who was going to be in the national championship race and the only thing that mattered was beating Florida . I cared about the touchdown but for some unknown reason most of the other fans cared more about a game over 1000 miles away. and for some reason that moment still gets talked about more than the fourth-down conversions even though after the fact we can prove unequivocally the usc-stanford game didn't matter any more than any other loss by any other team in the nation that helped us get to the national championship game with two losses. if you were excited about it whatever that's your decision but it just shows how people got mixed up in some BS rivalry that never existed all because they couldn't accept the fact that our national championship was just as good in 03 whether or not we shared particularly considering how long it'd been since we got to say that at all.

what I do remember is saving my breath to cheer when the defense was on the field rather than going ape shite over a Pac-10 game

I didn't ask his why he was ever relevant I asked why is he still? To FLA fans yes to LSU fans no. Tebow was a system QB and it fit him perfectly. Is he one of the greatest of all time?? Nope sorry. He's a TE that couldn't throw and choked most of the time.

I wasn't responding to "if he was ever relevant" but stating that Tim Tebow will be relevant for the duration of CFB - period. For someone who was a "system" QB (and isn't that the case anytime a someone puts up big nos?) and "couldn't throw" he put up some impressive numbers - 3 TD's vs us in '06, 2 BCS championships, a Heisman.

Any discussion of all-time greats includes Tebow.

With a win, the following week meant LSU would be playing as the #1 in team in both the AP and Coaches Polls.

It meant the stepping out of USCs shadow regarding the split in 2003 and the fact that we each shared top spot in one of the polls again.

That's the reason. You can disagree with why so many were happy about it, but you can't ignore it. It was a big deal, and still is to this day.

I agree with everything else as it may have had metaphorical significance to a lot of fans, but beating Florida to help us win the Natty in '07 was the big deal... not USC losing... they were just one team in over a hundred that lost more than one game that year

You're arguing semantics. If the question is why was the crowd cheering, I am telling you. If your argument is that they should have been cheering for something else, I don't care.

Sports is drama. USC losing and the opportunity to hold #1 in both polls presented LSU with something they had never done. USC winning does not likely add the emphasis (which was the root of that celebratory explosion) to that game like their loss, and thus the announcement of brought.

Yeah, people knew the score, but they announced it for a reason. Had they won, they would not have announced it.

What I soo hate about that is that apparently the fans thought that score announcement was more important than anything going on on the field. Because most everyone points to that moment as the single most emotional momment in T.S. history not an actual in game event

Wow..
We just scored and there was a TV time out. Nothing was going on but that score gave everyone in the stadium a boost because in that moment you realize we win we can go to the title game.
It's obvious you either weren't there or don't understand sports. Or both.

Why don't you cheer after touchdowns?
