Ill wait for you to explain how tax cuts killed the economy...
Maybe, just maybe the economy was going through its natural down stage.

His primary problem is that his only real chance was to convince people that he in fact was conservative when all he really presented was a slightly less liberal version of the other guy. A WHOLE LOT of people who may have had a tendency to vote for McCain simply did exactly as one would expect, vote for the more liberal guy. Meanwhile, a good many people sat home.
Not to mention his psychopath foreign policy and "send 'em all back" immigration solution.
McCain really was awful.

I may give young people a great deal of deserved shite, but I'm just as likely to tell my peers that they need to stop thinking they're still 18. The world is moving. You don't have to accept all new things. A lot of it is shite. But, you also can't just dismiss it all.

Obama

I'm 62 and you pretty much hit the nail with the hammer. The older we get the more unlikely we are to change or adapt our way of thinking, especially when it comes to social issues. Sometimes this is good for America, sometimes not. However, throwing out criticisms, not you but many people in general, is an easy thing to do unless one has been there, done that concerning older folks and why they think like they do.
Of course, just because we have been there, done that doesn't always make us right but I do think it affords us the opportunity to tell the youngsters that sometimes they have absolutely no idea of what they are talking about if they have yet to be in my shoes.
Bottom line, we need term limits in my opinion.

it's funny you say that considering how much better than Biden she is.

It's not fair to blame Palin for McCain's loss in 2008. She was one of the only reasons traditional GOP voters came out for him. I honestly don't think any Republican could have won that year with the tanking economy and a public that was desperate to be rid of anyone who reminded them of Bush.
Of all the choices, Kerry was by far the worst candidate nominated and also ran the worst campaign.

The answer is Obama.
Of course the stupid azz media carried his water.

McCain was the worst.
Romney was probably the best to not win. If he had just a little more charisma that election may have swung the other way.

I am offended by this thread since it does not include my favorite Presidential Candidate. He was the only one with the insight to suggest we change the Dept of Defense into the Dept. of Peace.

I think a lot of the middle of the road and independent voters were looking for a reason to not give Bush a second term.
Or one might say a lot of voters were looking for a reason to keep Kerry out of the White House.
How else do you explain, with two wars going full throttle, how Bush got 11.5 million more votes in 2004 than he did in 2000? (By comparison, Obama got 3.6 million FEWER votes in 2012 than he did in 2008.)

McCain. The only thing he did, by choosing Palin, was ensure that history would be made by either having the first female VP or the first president who wasn't Anglo Saxon.
Worst campaign I've seen in a while.

Let's limit this to the candidates that won their nomination, but lost the election (Gore, Kerry, and McCain)
Then you might want to change the thread title to reflect this.

I think it was John McCain, by a lot. Followed by Kerry for acidic personality. And also, the winner of the Blown Opportunities Award for ineffectiveness at key campaign moments" would go to Mitt Romney.

quote:I think you've almost hit the nail on the head. You're 62, I'm 65 and as a card-carrying Boomer I want to admit that our generation is one big knot of confusion. I mean we have some brilliant, creative people in our midst. We also have some of the biggest flakes, and fakes, ever. We have been the gateway to the relativization of our culture (I'm ok/you're ok), the loss of a core set of values which guided Western Civilization mostly well (not perfectly, but well) for centuries, and led the way to the current state of feeling over thinking, which establishes the self above all other forms of social interaction and conscience (If it feels good, do it; or: cheating/stealing is wrong only if I get caught). We oldies can remember what things were like before all these previous things fell away, especially since the 1960s. The pre-60s years weren't perfect, but at least we had a pretty civil society, and we pretty much knew why we did what we did. Been there, done that, and now am pretty much amazed that among the highest values today is having the latest techie toys. And of course, being entertained.
