When the director is expecting me to buy Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist, sure.

Or when Michael Bay expects us to buy Rachael Taylor as a world-class hacker in Transformers.

You must have never ventured outside of BR. I'm from south LA. I've been to every city they went to in TD. Erath, St Martinville, Eunice, et al are not shanty towns with redneck trash as residents. Sorry you like being generalized

They don't have to portray them in a positive light, but they don't have to mock them either.

Please give an example where they were mocking the people in TD?

Second, you are clearly forgetting the time period in TD. It was the mid-90's. I'd take a ballpark guess that the environment in Erath,St.Martinville & Eunice has changed since then.

Go back and watch and look at the people they interview. The only guy they got right was the old man that directs them to Marie fontenot in the first episode. He was the only reasonably portrayed person.

Ballpark guess is wrong. Half of my family is from the church point and Eunice area and both had established townships in the 90s. The only place I didn't go to as a kid in the 90s is st Martinville, and, given it's size now, I seriously doubt it was a shanty town 20 years ago.

Not even worth arguing anymore. You're the only person here defending Hollywood. It's in the same vein as them making fun of conservatives, portraying Africa as a shithole, sucking off NYC and LA (never showing the shitty areas), etc. It would be like portraying all Germans as nazis. Unfair sweeping generalizations are bullshite.

It's just that a lot of movie villains have money and brains.
If it were reality - bad guys are poor/stupid/undisciplined - then there would be no challenge or suspense.

My Cousin Vinny (this was the worst IMO)

New Yorker Vinny wasn't exactly portrayed as a brain surgeon. The New Yorkers were stereotyped far worse in that movie than were the southerners (who were friendly and affable and really smarter, albeit on the wrong side of the case).
