This would kill college basketball, just like it's killed college baseball.

I agree, but I still don't see how you can legally tell an 18 year old adult he cannot make a living in his selected trade. Without having any legal knowledge, it seems like age discrimination.
NBA isn't the only pro basketball out there...

Because it is a collectively bargained deal between the NBA and the players it should withstand any challenge.

I have no problem with them pushing it back to 20 if they end up doing it. I think they could come up with another way besides age, and a better way, but its a start. What a lot of people dont understand is that college and professional sports have a symbiotic relationship. Making bball players stay until 20 makes both college and NBA ball ready. It keeps talent in college a little longer so you dont have to reload every year and just 1 and done guys. And by staying another year in college, they are better prepared both physically and mentally. Especially mentally.
But at the same time I get where people are coming from when they say that if youre older than 18, you should be allowed to work and make $$$ at youre selective skill. At 18, you can fight and die for our country. But cant play in the NBA? Plus, some kids just dont like school. But, the best way to get to the NBA is to go to college. The rule forces you to go to school. Which isnt a bad thing. Im all for education. But some kids just do not want to go to school.
Which is why I think the best thing to do is to make the rule similar to how baseball does it. For the NBA I would make it: You can enter the draft after high school if you want. But if you go to college, stay 2 years or until 20. This, at least, gives the players the opportunity to go pro and make $$$ if they dont want to go to college. But if they go to college, gotta stay 2 years. It will help the both college and NBA.

In this country, you cannot sell a product to the public, and choose who to let in/employ based on race, age, etc.

by that logic you couldn't set age limits for things like drinking, driving, voting etc
the restrictions can't be discriminatory (based on race, sex, religion, etc) but age is not necessarily discriminatory. they are protected on the basis of the collective bargaining agreement

put it this way... there are 450 jobs available to play in the NBA... at what they're willing to pay, how many applicants do you think you're going to get?
so they have to come up with criteria to narrow it down

So every two years Kentucky will win a national title, awesome
Talent would be more spread out IMO. Unless a kid is willing to ride the pine for a year he will go elsewhere.

This is like 0% or a bunch of schools would have terrible APR scores and would be banned from the tournament.
Players who sign pro contracts don't count against the APR numbers. Crazy, huh?

That isn't remotely true. If they leave before finishing their spring semester course work the school takes a hit. Syracuse lost 2 scholarships because of that.

I don't get how that would work if they weren't all playing the same schedule?

My vote:
Keep the division and they each play each other 3 times
Play the rest of the league twice
End up with about the same amount of games you played in the shortened lockout season.
Product would be better because teams would actually have time to practice & no back to backs.

So why the frick isn't Kentucky in APR hell?

Because these guys finish their spring semesters. John Wall and Brandon Knight both received academic honors for their spring semesters.
They've had one guy who who just quit school, Daniel Orton. He was a 1st round pick, which means he received a guaranteed contract and still hurt their APR score.
