How do you feel about MS DUI laws?

Don't know anything about em, but if you'll notice my post was made before he said this was MS.

Is there any other punishment or is $650 all?

In Mississippi the statutory fine is not less than $250 and not more than $1000. He will also be required to obtain SR-22 insurance, which will cost a lot more than his regular rate. His license will also be suspended for a year unless he attends MASEP , which will reduce the suspension to 90 days.

$650 is the first part, that's the only part I was considering helping him with

Well where is he going to get the rest of the money?

I think you should put the dollar sign before the digits for one.

Like my parents told me "the first mistake is on us, the next you're on your own." Help him out with this one. Everyone deserves one chance.

OK, lets break it down:

1) This is the first of many more mistakes
2) He has learned his lesson and will never DaD again

So, giving or not giving him money in scenario #1 solves nothing. Giving him money in scenario #2 makes him appreciative, or he takes the money and starts avoiding you out of fear of having to pay you back.

Also, under #2, not giving him the money reinforces the load of trouble hes gotten himself into. And he determines not to repeat that painful situation.

At this point, there is only a 20% benefit in giving him the money. The benefit of helping him over a difficult time, and him being sincerely grateful. However, that 20% could be lessened if he begins to take for granted your generosity in other real life situations.

So its perhaps less than a 20% chance youre actually helping him in the long run.

Some heartless bastards in this thread. He's your brother and he's in a fix for a dumb mistake but nothing malicious. If you can afford it then help him out with the stipulation that he pay you back when he can. People on here acting like first offense DUI at 21 is some horrendous offense worthy of abandoning a family member in need. The OT is full of such hardasses.

Check the time stamps genius. I was obviously at the screen I currently am in at this very second typing my post, at the same time he posted his. Sorry I can't magically know what people are posting up to the millisecond while I am currently typing these words in the message box.

What is the $650 for? Is that bail or something? If he got it yesterday, I doubt anyone has even looked over his case to hand out fines for the offense itself. Was it definitely DUI or was it speeding or something?

If you lend him the money do you think that you will ever see it again?
