Piper is a worse person than Alex. She left Alex gutted after her mom died. You're breaking up with someone and their mom dies, you stick around until at least after the funeral. It's not like Alex did her wrong, she was tired of being with a drug dealer after the initial thrill wore off. She did her fiancée dirty. Even Crazy Eyes could see she was a bad person.

She did Crazy Eyes wrong, I'll give you that, but screw Alex. She's a manipulative bitch who only uses Piper and then acts hurt when Piper asserts her own agency. Alex makes a big show of "I never lied to you" when in fact one of her first statements in prison to Piper is a big, at, honkin lie. Piper owes Alex nothing.

Anytime you talk to the police to save your own arse and frick someone over that you supposedly care for..says a lot about that person.

To me, The shows heart is in the other characters, like Woodstock and her story.

it says in the opening credits that it is based off book under the same name.

My wife did, she said it wasn't nearly as good. A lot less crazy shite/drama happening. She said it was interesting though. A lot more insightful on actual prison life.

i just read some amazon reviews on the book and they say that the lesbo sex is greatly exaggerated in the show and the book is a relatively safe read...
